My human and I had a big project this weekend! On Thursday, she realized that Pi Day was Monday, so at the last minute she decided to make a pie. And have me help. And make a video. It was pretty crazy.
The recipe was for a tiny one apple pie. It’s dessert for two people, and it’s just the right size for a kitchen cat helper. It’s actually a pretty easy recipe.
It was hard to keep my human in line, since she was juggling the ingredients and the camera. And a script so she didn’t stumble over the recipe instructions.
But I kept an eye on her every step of the way!
And here is the pie about to go into the oven! You can see the whole video — and how much I helped — below. And the recipe is below the video.
Here is the actual recipe! Let me know if you plan to make it!
One Apple Pie
This apple pie from scratch makes an adorable and tasty dessert for two people. No tempting leftovers!
- 4 or 5-Inch Pie or Tart Pan
- ⅓ C All Purpose Flour, unsifted
- 2 Tbsp + 1 tsp. Granulated Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Cold Butter ((I used sea salted))
- 1 Tbsp Milk
- 1 Apple (Best are Honeycrisp, Jonagold, Braeburn or Granny Smith)
- ¼ tsp Ground Cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 375 °F.
First make the pie crust.
Mix the flour with the 1 tsp. sugar. Cut in the butter until you have very coarse crumbles. Add in the milk until a dough forms. Add more milk if you need, but sparingly.
Roll the dough into a ball and divide it in half. Roll out one half on a floured board until it will fit the bottom of your tiny pie pan, with some of the crust hanging beyond the rim.
Next make the filling. Peel, core and slice the apple. Since it is a small pie, you will want thinner slices than you would with a regular sized pie. Combine it with the 2 Tbsp. sugar (less if you want a more tart pie), and the cinnamon.
Add the filling to the pie, and roll out the second half of the dough for the top crust. Make sure your top crust is wide enough to drape over the filling and the edges of the pan.
Fold the pastry edges together, and crimp them to seal in the filling. Prick the top with a fork and sprinkle lightly with sugar.
Place the pie on a baking sheet on the lowest rack of the oven. Bake for 45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
Let cool. Serve slightly warm with your favorite vanilla ice cream. It’s also great the next day.

I watched your video (& loved it) and had to come here to get the recipe. I am obsessed with the idea of making a tiny apple pie. I have made mug cakes before but never even thought about making a pie for two (or one, LOL). Thanks for the idea.
Also, I thought you made an excellent chef’s helper, Summer.

How did your human get that chef’s hat to stay on the side of your head ? We hope it wasn’t clipped to your ear or something !
It was just an elastic strap, and my ear kept it in place. Usually.
Great video. Thank you for including the recipe. I plan to make one eventually. Happy Pi Day! xo
