When a disaster happens, my human is always torn between donating to the big organizations or sending money directly to local groups. The truth is that both need your help to rescue the animals affected in storms, tornadoes and earthquakes. Local groups, whose shelters may have been damaged, need assistance to help displaced rescue pets and to rebuild, while the big organizations are on the ground, helping care for pets who had to be left behind and reuniting them with their owners. The below video shows a couple of rescues performed by an animal rescue team from the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Pull out your handkerchiefs for this one:

Thousands of humans and animals are still suffering from the aftereffects of Sandy, so however you choose, please give. In fact, if you want to mention a group you know of that needs help, please tell us about them in the comments and link to them below. Thanks!
BTW, thanks to A Tonk’s Tale for leading me to this video!
Thank you for sharing this! It made me laugh and tear up at the same time. I’m glad they were ok…
Isn’t that just SO cool? We made mommy donate after she wiped the tears away 😉 (wasn’t too hard, she’d already reached for her plastic card thingy after seeing those reunions!!)
Hey, we just gotted your calendar on order – WOOT!
We had heard of this group and the excellent work they are doing. Believe it or not, we still have one cousin who lives in Princeton NJ who doesn’t have water, although she finally has her power back on.
purrs for every pets.
We were so happy and leaky at the end of the video. We will send a few green papers to IFAW. Thanks for posting this, Sparkle.
We are purring for all animals and groups that help them… We raise our paws in salute to all veterans too!
We help both the humans and the pets from Sandy. Good post.
Happy Veteran’s Day! Our Pop is a vet so he gets lots of extra cuddles today.
Mommy is all misty! These folks are wonderful.
What those humans do is WONDERFUL! Yep–I’m making sure Tommy does a donation. We like to see happy endings…

I snatched my mom´s creditcard and made a donation to IFAW 🙂
That was a very touching video. There were a lot of tears here. We have been wondering about the pets affected by Sandy.
Thank you for sharing this video, Sparkle. You’re so right … we used a bunch of hankies watching it. What vital and amazing work IFAW and other groups like them are doing.
Thank you Sparkle for the video and telling us about furbabies that need help as well as their humans. I also wonder why not anything that mom and I have seen or rea has addressed this so I am particularly glad you did. xxoo
It’s a very moving video. There are so many that need our help *sigh*
I had never heard of these folks. I’ve book marked their site – perhaps my year end charity spending spree will include them. Thanks…
What’s needed urgently are foster homes. Petfinders annual Foster a Lonely Pet for the Holidays program is on now.
oh, this made our mom’s eyes all leaky. Bless the folks from IFAW and the other rescue organizations. thanks for sharing the movie, Sparkle 🙂

That’s one of the most amazing videos we’ve ever seen. Lots of tears here…we are so grateful for the rescuers and their dedication and compassion. We needed extra kleenex when the woman and her kitties were reunited.

What a terrific video. We sure didn’t know anything about IFAW. What a great organization. Wish we had some money to donate to them. Thanks for the video. Take care.
I support the IFAW.
Why is it that there is so little news of the fate of animals affected by a hurricane or earthquake or other disaster. It always makes me sad.
Thanks for posting about this very important issue!
