Sunday Catinee: Curtain-Climbing SpiderCats

November 17, 2013 By: Sparkle Cat37 Comments

Sparkle's Sunday Catinee

It’s really nice to see humans who treasure their cats’ funtime more than their curtains! Check out Ava — she has been climbing curtains since she was a kitten and in this video she is four years old. Do you hear the word “No!” Neither do I:

If you can’t see the above video, click here to watch it on YouTube!

This human is chuckling with glee as his two kittens make a tag-team race for the red dot… right up the red curtains! The kitten on the right is especially gifted at curtain (and curtain rod) climbing:

And I thought I would include this eHow video in which a vet explains how to keep your cat from climbing curtains. Normally I think humans are just full of fun-killing “advice,” but in this case I like how she sternly lectures about interactive play and taking part in your cat’s playtime. ‘Cause if you don’t want us kitties climbing the curtains, then come up with other ways for us to have fun:

That old red dot is one of the most fun games for cats, humans, and even dogs. I recently got one for my dog Isabella.

I was never much of a climber. The Human says that is one of the best things about it–I’m a low-to-the-ground kinda guy!

Oui Oui was quite the curtain climber when she was a kitten. Then she got big and pulled the curtains down. Several times. Now Oui Oui has to be satisfied with texturizing the curtains as presents for the mom on special occasions, like her birthday and Christmas.

Back Again (your comment “and then Binga and I get into arguments on who gets the prime spot on her fidgety self for the 10 minutes she stays put”): TBT can stay stable fer about 20 minutes at a time, but has ta move his legs. I can put up with being reanged for that twice. Iza, on the other paw, is like a sleeping baby an can be rearranged on TBT many times more than me. Thats why she usually gets his lap longest. ~ Marley

I LOVE those videos! We have floor to practically ceiling curtains but I’ve NEVER tried to climb them. I used to climb a lot more than I do now. I may bite but I’m really a good kitteh.

We watched the curtain-climbing with great interest, but then TBT announced that the treat jar would magically disappear iffen we tried doing that here. We’re not quite sure of the connection, but we’re not taking anny chances!

Unfortunately, I’m too big for the climbin’ of curtains but I understand that when my aunties were babies, they did it all the time. They were so good at it, they could have gone PRO.

Our old cat used to be a prolific climber but thankfully not up the curtains as they were so heavy they used to pull out the curtain rail and fall down all by themselves.

I saw the video of Binga being nasty – sadly that counts as a mild warning in our house as there were no earthquake growls or operatic shrieking. I really wish my two would play nicely but Magic simply wont wear Red at all, even tho’ I’ve caught the pair of them having a sneaky sniff at the other when they are busy getting a treat.

That second video is hysterical. I bet those three kittens that have moved in here would do that. I am going to have to get them a red light. Too funny. We didn’t watch the instruction video. We don’t want to learn how to not climb curtains.
    Have a great day.

Boy, the only curtains in the whole house are in her bedroom. They are short and not tempting. Mom said she had several babies like Robin and Hopping John who came here just weaned. They had to be discouraged from climbing drapes. Mom finally got rid of all curtains and drapes and never got more..
