Sunday Catinee: A Commercial Interruption

March 6, 2011 By: Sparkle Cat36 Comments

Have you seen the latest Fancy Feast commercial? It’s very sweet and charming:

If you can’t see the video above, click here.

My human gets a little misty-eyed every time she sees it. But Tamar from the blog I Have Cat made a good point in a recent Facebook comment: she thinks that it’s time they got a new cat — not a purebred, but a “mutt!” I do think she has a point. A kitty can come from anywhere these days and find herself living a life of luxury. A lot of you out there who are reading this came from kill shelters, so you know what I’m talking about. A pampered lifestyle is the right of all cats now!

You know what I think should be the next commercial for Fancy Feast? A couple (maybe even the couple in the commercial) walks into a city shelter and picks out the saddest, roughest, most pathetic looking cat there. They take him home and lovingly groom him and spiff him up, then give him a huge cat tower, a cushy bed for napping (although we also see him sleeping in the humans’ even cushier king-sized bed) and loads of cat toys. If it’s the couple from the commercial, we see the now-grown-up fancy cat bonding with the shelter cat. We see the shelter cat bloom into utter happiness… and at the end, he’s presented with the company’s product.

It’s a great chance to rebrand for today’s kitty. What do you think?

We think that’s a great idea. Neither of us are purebred, but Mom has us living pretty well. Like many kittehs.

This is a great ad! We are all mutts I think, well, we all were rescues in one way or another. Hey, maybe Armani could be the next FF cat! He kinda looks like this cat, only a little more mutt like. MOL!

Fabulous idea for a follow up commercial! What the heck, submit it and see what happens! (Oh, and around here, the term is “purebred alley cat” as opposed to “mutt.” LOL!)

Mutt? Who you callin’ a mutt? Me, I am a proud mancat descendant from the time of the Pharoahs!

But, yeah, okay I was prolly born in Golden Gate park to a feral momcat of undetermined origin. Still….if you go waaaaaay, waaaaaaaay back…..

Me and the Human LUBZ your commercial idea!

The ad is very sweet, but I think you have a great idea, Sparkle. I guess Fancy Feast tries to go after the more affluent cat owners, with the idea that they have the means to pay for their product. But what a great idea to encourage affluent people to give homes and LOVE to some wonderful, shelter kitties.

That was a nice commercial, but I would not have know that was a purebred cat. Maybe I’m not so bright when it comes to these things, cats are all beautiful to me and I can’t tell the difference. But that’s such a good idea, to use a shelter cat. On the other hand I would never feed FF to my cats…yuck!

We think you should totally submit your commercial idea to Fancy Feast – it is perfect! We think all cats should be pampered, no matter where they came from!

I think your idea is catabulous! Sadly, Fancy Feast has always used a purebred kitty as their spokescat….I say it is time for a change!

Our mommy was to chicken to watch the commercial and is leaky eyed just from thinking of what could be on it. She is absolutely the biggest sensitive sap ever. Anyway, we think you have a great idea for a commercial and we hope they do it!

Awww – we hadn’t seen that commercial yet. But we agree – the kitten needs a friend and it should be a shelter kitty!!! Tell us who we need to write.

It reminded mom of an adoption a while back – this young couple had come in to the shelter looking at kittens. The girl had fallen in love with one but they decided to come back. He said he had dropped his phone and asked the adoption staff to put it on hold for him. He came back the next night and finalized the adoption. He planned to surprise the girl with the kitten and had a blue ribbon for it to wear with the ring he planned to propose with (and there was a big sigh from everyone in the room).

I think this is a great idea Sparkle. I was rescued from the local dog pound and now, I am super lucky and some might even say I am pampered.

I liked the commercial, got all choked up over it — but a shelter kitty would have been awesome — Fancy Feast could promote a shelter or rescue by showing the guy going to the shelter or rescue to get the kitten — would have been a GREAT promotion for shelter pets!!

My Marmie agrees. Some kitties are just diamonds in the rough…like me! When I was just a parking lot cat, she rescued me and turned me into the worthy-of-Fancy Feast king I am today. However, Marmie would never feed me Fancy Feast…she doesn’t like the ingredient list.

That’s a great idea Sparkle. We love the ad too, but it could be so much better if it was a sad cat from death row, or like my sister Jonesie who came to our yard on death’s door, fur missing….and with love and kindness blossomed into the most magnificent cat.

That is a fantastic idea. We should all write to Fancy Feast. They could even let someone actually do it. Fatten a shelter kitty up on Fancy Feast. We should get a petition going. Brilliant. I might make this a project. Have a super Sunday.
