If you look to your right and scroll down just a bit, you’ll see I have a new donation widget up. I could not have a birthday month without also having a drive to raise money for a deserving cat rescue. With all the disasters and upheavals happening recently, I wanted to remind all of you that there are organizations out there that do great work day in and day out — that still need donations to keep running. I chose The Cat House on the Kings for a number of different reasons: like me, it is located in California (it’s about four hours north of Los Angeles just before you hit Fresno); it is the state’s largest no-kill cat sanctuary; and it’s home to unwanted cats, an adoption center and it works with local vets to provide low-cost spay and neutering. But mere facts can’t explain how magical this place is. Many of you have seen this video before, but it is worth watching again.
If you can’t see the video above, click here to watch it on YouTube.
Founder Lynea Lattanzio does not have to dream of Cat Island — she has created her own version of it. And even better, you can adopt any of these cats. Lynea would love nothing better than to see these kitties happily homed. And she has done that thousands of times! Currently, The Cathouse on the Kings has over 700 feline residents, about a dozen or so dogs (plus some goats), but in its 19-year history it has adopted out 18,000 cats, 5,000 dogs, and spayed and neutered 40,000 animals! You can see why I wanted to feature The Cat House on the Kings as my birthday donation pledge!
There are a number of different ways you can help keep The Cat House on the Kings running. You can donate via my widget to the right, or donate directly on their website. Did you know that if you sell on eBay, you can donate a portion of your sale proceeds to them? Or there is my favorite: you can sponsor a kitty (or even **cough, cough** a dog, if that is your preference)! Visit their contribute page for these, and many more ways to give.
While you’re partying on my blog this month, I hope you take a moment to click on the ChipIn Widget and send along some of your good cheer to this very worthy sanctuary!
