It’s National Nurses Week through May 12, and I think this year especially it’s important to acknowledge the hard work that nurses do.
In addition to caring for patients, and all that involves (conducting physical exams, finding out a patient’s needs, checking vital signs, taking blood, dispensing medication, etc.), nurses have lots of other responsibilities. Among other things, they work with physicians and insurance providers, keep track of patient records, make sure their stations are running smoothly, and keep up on the latest medical advances. Oh, and they also help coordinate whenever the therapy pet team shows up to visit patients. And we therapy pets are there to visit the nurses and other hospital staff too. With all their duties, they need stress relief.
Dr. Bones is grateful for all the things the nursing staff does for his patients and for the hospitals and clinics they work at. And these aren’t the only places you find nurses. You’ll also find them at senior living facilities, schools, pharmacies and even in people’s homes. There are too many nursing specialties for me to even list here.
No matter what stage of life you are in, nurses have made a difference in your life. If you know a nurse personally, please do something to show you are grateful for all that they do. And if you are a nurse yourself, thank you so much! You make a difference every single day. I am so glad you are here.
Are you a nurse, or has one helped you recently? Let me know in the comments.
