I’ve been giving this some thought and I’ve come to the conclusion that humans have the whole “willpower” thing wrong. Of course, that’s not surprising, since they get so many other things wrong. But when it comes to willpower, it is especially confusing. When a human says they are using “willpower,” they mean they are trying very hard not to do something — so shouldn’t that be WON’Tpower? No wonder they fail all the time when they use willpower! They are actually saying they will, even though they mean they won’t.
Now, being a kitty, I know the real meaning of willpower. Willpower is a very powerful thing. You know that right away because the word “power” is in it. When a cat uses willpower, she is powerfully willing something to happen. We use it all the time. On a small scale, it’s how we get meals, treats and toys — we will it, and it happens. But we also use it for big things, such as when stray kitties find new homes. They will the humans to adopt them, and it happens. We cats are masters of willpower, and any human who lives with any of us will agree.
Humans like to say that cats are willful creatures. It’s true, we are — and we are proud of it. Maybe humans should take a lesson from us. They could accomplish a whole lot more.
I am beginning to learn so many things and traits about kitties now…heheehe!
You is so smart, Sparkle! But we shouldn’t tell da beans bout our willpower. They might become resisisistant to it.
::Claps paws:: Word!
Cats are so much better at Law of Attraction than humans; we could learn a lot.
My cat Danny Mittens never makes a sound but he always gets what he wants. How can just staring convey so much?
What an awesome stare you have – almost hypnotic…
I just realized that is an incredibly awesome photo…
Sparkle, you are such a wise kitty! We think all humans should understand the true kitty meaning of willpower!
Excellent post! You are so very correct, more people need to listen to their wise kitties.
I have noticed this very trait of my cat. She just thinks really hard about something and she gets it. Usually a treat or my pillow.
I’m with you on this one, Sparkle! So well thought out. I truly believe in the power of the positive mind. “Won’t” is for “Willy Nillys”. Great observations.
Thanks for the explanation! I always thought these things were my ideas, but in a house with this many cats I can see I’ve been guided by suggestion all along.
My human says “amen and amen” to that! 🙂 hehe. I’ve trained my human to the willpower system, and now she obeys almost all my will-vibes.
Which is why I have always said “Cats are the wisest of all species”! 🙂
Sparkle,
You said it all. Mommy & Daddy have learned one thing from us; they’re big nappers! It’s a start…
You surely are a wise kittie! Won’t Power…MOL!!!
Actually that makes a lot more sense – using “will” power to “not” do something is contradictory. Aren’t you the clever one!
Sparkle, you are brilliant. Silly humans spend so much time thinking about what they don’t want, they keep getting what they don’t want! Idiots.
Sparkle you are so right. After all cats rule the world by using the will power. We can get Mom to do almost anything except she will not share her food. But she is pretty good about everything else. That was well said.
Sparkle, once again, you have shown us how much we humans can learn from cats. So, you’re saying instead of willing myself NOT to eat an entire pizza, I should be willing myself TO eat nothing. Have I got it right?
I like this. I always knew cats were smarter than they let on.
You’re very smart! Humans are not as smart as they think they are!! Of course, we already knew that.
Sniffie and the Florida Furkids
What a wise kitty you are, Sparkle.
You’re very wise, Sparkle! Indeed, humans could learn from us, if they paid attention.
So true. Willpower is like da law of attraction. If yoo keep finking bout what yoo don’t want dat’s what yoo get. In da case of not wanting to eat chocolate den dats all yoo finks about and guess what will all da sudden show up around yoo? Lots of tempting chocolate. Dat’s rite.
Sparkle, we think you’re on to something there!!
I am working on willing more treats!
How true, how true. You look very willfull in that photo, Sparkle.
Hmm…. you are so very right, Sparkle. BTW, we luff that pic of you – that tail is most floofsome.
Sparkle, you are very wise. Our mummy says that is true – especially when humans are on a diet, they say they have the willpower to resist a chocolate. mawhawhaw! No wonder it doesn’t work!
We used our willpower to get our mummy and daddy to adopt us! Now we have them wrapped around our little paws!!

Humans are free to be more like us kitties, as long as they still have the opposable thumbs to open our noms!
