Okay, so I am already an orange kitty (or technically ruddy, as they call this color if you are an Abyssinian or Somali cat). But I do want to show my support for this very important cause! There is nothing more evil than cruelty to a helpless creature and we have the whole month of April to make a difference.
The ASPCA has a whole section of their website devoted to Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month and a load of materials for you. Learn the top 10 ways to fight animal cruelty, how to recognize it, and how to help abused animals in your own community. If you are on Facebook and you have a pet you rescued from an abusive situation, you can enter the “I Saved My Pet” photo contest. It’s open until April 28, 2012.
If you want to show your support for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month, go orange for April! The ASPCA has a bunch of suggestions here. Some of my blogging friends have changed the layout of the blogs to orange. I can’t because my layout was custom designed, but since I am orange-hued already, I will remind you year round that we all have to fight against animal cruelty.
If all this information is making your head spin and you are not sure where to start, I will give you a suggestion right now: boycott Loews hotels and let them know why. If you remember my post from a few days ago, the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel and Loews Royal Pacific Resort in Orlando, FL are intent on getting rid of their small, once nicely-kept feral cat colony. Right now, at this very moment, they are trapping the cats in the most cruel and inhumane manner and it is only through the kindness of a local rescue group that they are being saved from animal control — you know, the place where they immediately kill feral cats. For more information on what these cats are suffering through, and to keep on top of the situation, “like” the Save Loews Cats Facebook page.
We gonna make Mommy turn ours orange this weekend!! And we think Loew’s is AWFUL!!!
Go Sparkle! We’ll be figuring how to go orange (Peggy Sue can be our spokespaw) and we won’t be visiting a Lowes.
Sparkle, it’s a good thing your furs are already orange…I bet that my Human is going to try to dress me up in something…
And a very beautiful orange you are too!
The whole Loews thing upsets us to no end so we will never, ever go there and will tell everyone else to never go there either. We love that photo of you Sparkle!
Hi Sparkle. We went and “liked” the Save Loews’ Cats page on FB, and frankly, we will never stay at one of this chain’s properties ever again. Thanks for the information about going orange … now we have to figure out how to actually do it. Hugs!
Hmm. My daddy Peyton is kinda orange in a ginger kind of way. I have orange furs under my gray ones. Does that count? I think think we should claw out Loew’s eyes….
Sparkly dear thank you so much for stopping by with condolences for Scooby. Your kind words mean so much and we are so blessed to know you and call you friends.
Great post! We too have gone O!
Thanks Sparkle! Me thinks they does great work and thanks for letting us know where to go!
kisses
Nellie
We’ve gone orange too Sparkle!!!
I’ve got their orange banner on my blog…
We are orange too and Loews should be PTS!
We liked that page. While we goats have been known to erm, send the Farm cats flying that does not mean we would want to see them suffer. Much
So glad for all the info you gave us. I will go to the ASPCA and get started from there!!!!
We are quite upset with the whole Loews thing. We can’t believe what they are doing (and after they acted as if they were actually listening too!)
I have liked their page and we’ll never stay in one of their hotels. They prolly have bedbugs anyway. HAH! Gramma once yelled at a kid she saw banging a paper bag against a wall, when she discovered there was a kitten in the bag. Karma got that kid, though. We did feel badly for his parents when we heard he fell off a 19th story balcony to his death during a St. Pat’s party when he was 21.
just shared this most important post!
They will NEVER EVER get my mom’s green papers EVER!
Thank you Sparkle, for posting about all of this. We’ve been following the whole Loew’s thing…just awful. We’ll have nothing to do with them…forever.
I will definitely not visit Loew’s hotels. I can’t stand cruelty to animals. They are so innocent and trusting it is hard to imagine why someone would do that.
We are boycotting Loews. What they are doing is unconscionable!! (and that’s a pretty big word for us!!)
Gosh, I went and read the deal about the trapping of those cats. Those people at the hotel need to be shot. That is horrible abuse. I am going to spend some time today trying to find out more about all this. I would like to do something for that rescue that is taking the cats.
Thanks for this news Sparkle.
Thanks for the reminder. I need to go put up my badge.
Have a great day.
pawhugs, Max
You are on the case, Sparkle – good for you! As my staff would say, “no wonder we don’t have world peace.” Animal abuse is despicable.
We promise not to EVER visit Loew’s Hotels!!!
Now we gotta figure out how ta do somethin in ORNGE.
