Memorial Day in the U.S. marks the beginning of summer. Lots of people take the day off and barbecue and have backyard parties.
But Memorial Day is actually rather a somber holiday. We are also honoring those who gave their lives for the lifestyle we currently have.
One of the biggest faults humans have is that they take things for granted. And when you do that, you risk losing the best of what you have — and what those who came before fought to keep.
The truth is all humans need to fight to hold onto what they hold dear. Some made the ultimate sacrifice. But you also need to honor those brave ones by fighting here at home. That does not mean fighting with fists or weapons, though. It means fighting by voting for what you believe is right, and working to make changes locally, if you see things that need to be corrected. That is what humans have to do hold onto their freedoms. They’re not like cats, who are born free. If humans don’t work for their freedoms, they lose them.
Everybody needs a day off now and then, so enjoy the day. But don’t take it for granted either.
You are furry wise indeed, Summer! Many humans need to stop and think hard about those things that you mewed about…
Such great advice, Summer. That final photo is one of the best we have ever seen of you, and you have oodles of good ones. You should but that on some of your items for sale. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

Very well said Summer.
It is important to honour those brave souls and continue to work toward a better world where we can all get along.

It’s so important to remember the real reason for this day!
I don’t think it’s possible to be too serious on Memorial Day. It is a day to remember those who died in service of our country, and remember their sacrifice and the sacrifice of their families. We are enjoying a beautiful day off work, but we’re also remembering why this is a holiday.
* Stands and Cheers * Well Said Summer.
I take a knee to honor those who fought and died for us. That is, if cats CAN take a knee.
That was such a great post and just so true. Those pictures are just great of you Summer.
Very wise words, Summer. We’re watching the History channel with our mom today, and there are shows about Viet Nam on. It was a horrible, horrible war, like all wars. Those brave men fought for our country so people in america could have a good life. Let’s honor them today.
Excellent post! We DO take things for granted.

Very well said, Summer.
Wonderful post sweet Summer. We remember our heroes each and every day.
Nicely put Summer and very true. It is a day to be thankful and cherish what you have. It’s a special day to memorialize the folks that have put their lives at risk to protect our world and everything living it on it. If you have to work today like our mom, thank you too. Purrs
Very wise words, Summer. Enjoy your Memorial Day.
A superior post in every way – the sentiment as well as the photos (which are superb!)
Well said, Summer.
We agree that you will need a great deal of fighting to redress the dire situation in your country, Summer. The rest of us find it tragic and pretty scary.
By the way, we absolutely the second photo in today’s post. It is one of our very favourites!
Purrs,
