If you are on Facebook and you follow me, you probably know how difficult it is to get posts from me in your news feed. Facebook just doesn’t want Pages showing up in your feeds. They want your experience there to be more family and friend oriented (at least that’s what they say). They would rather Pages pay for the right to be on your news feed.
That makes sense if the Page is for a business that has lots of products to sell. But I’m not that kind of Page. I’m here to entertain you, make you smile, and sometimes give you cat advice. If I do have something to sell, it’s something small, like my calendar or cards, that doesn’t make me a ton of money. Occasionally I write a post in conjunction with a brand, but when I do, I let you know… and that’s not very often. And usually, I try to make the brand give away something to my readers. So buying ads on Facebook for a Page like me is basically throwing away money.
But getting seen by you Facebook users isn’t totally a futile exercise. There are steps you can take that will greatly improve my chances (or the chances of any other Page you like) of being seen by you. Below are the screen shots (on both desktop and mobile versions) that will help you see me more often. I’ll show you the desktop version first.
First, go to my Page and hover your pointer over the tab that says “Following.” (That is, if you are following me! If you aren’t, you have to follow me first.) Hovering over Following will open up a new window.
Chances are you are set to Default. Change that! You want to mark “See First” instead. That will give my Page priority over Pages that are marked Default.
There is also an alternate way to mark me as See First. See that little pencil in the upper right hand corner? You can click on that.
That will send you to this window, and you can click the See First radio button there.
This will help, but there is another thing you can do in addition to marking me as See First.
See that little pencil to the right of Notifications? That determines if you will be notified when I’ve posted, in the little bell on your top bar. Clicking on the pencil opens the following window.
The default for the Notifications settings is Highlights. What you really want is Standard, which will show you up to five notifications a day. Since I only post three to four times a day usually, that means there is a good chance you will see at least some notifications from my page, depending on when you are online.
Now, let’s see how all this looks in Mobile.
Instead of a Following tab, you have three dots next to the Learn More tab (other Pages might have Messages or Sign Up instead of Learn More). Tap on the three dots.
This opens up a window with different options. Tap on Following.
Default basically means “almost never,” and that’s, well, the default. You don’t want that if you want to see me in your news feed.
Like with the Desktop version, you want to tap on the See First option. There’s a little trick to the Notifications. The settings for that are above the news feed options.
You need to turn on the Notifications first, and then tap on “Edit Notifications Settings.”
Once again, you want to tap on Standard.
That’s how you can change the settings to see me (or any other Page) in your Facebook news feed and Notifications. You really have a lot of freedom as to how much you want (or don’t want) to see any Page. Keep in mind, you can only mark 30 Pages as “See First.”
All this helps loads, but it won’t do any good if you don’t engage with my Page too! If you ignore Notifications and never visit my Page, Facebook will think you’re not interested and will give other Pages and people priority over me. So after you done the above steps, make sure you do the following regularly:
- Visit my Page when you see my posts in your feed or Notifications.
- Interact with my posts — Like or React to them and comment if you have something to say.
- Click through to the blog posts and check them out!
- Share my posts with your other cat loving friends, if you think it is something they would enjoy.
All this will help you see more of me. My human finds that the Pages she engages with the most show up more in her feed, and if she doesn’t go to the posts, eventually she doesn’t see them in her feed anymore. Even Pages she has marked as “See First.” I hope you like me enough to visit regularly!
