I wanted something special for my Cat World Domination Day party, so my human looked for homemade cat treat recipes. She found one on Popsugar for organic spinach and chicken cat treats. But of course, she didn’t bother buying all organic ingredients because she is lazy and a little bit cheap. The chicken and the egg are free range, and the spinach is organic, so it’s close, though! So I am just calling them homemade chicken and spinach cat treats.
Here are the ingredients:
1/2 lb. steamed boneless and skinless chicken thighs
1 cup fresh spinach leaves
1 cup quick cooking oats
1 brown egg
1/4 cup flour
And the secret ingredient: a tablespoon of high quality catnip!
After preheating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, my human put all the ingredients except for the flour into a food processor. (The recipe says you can use a blender, but our cheap model couldn’t do the job.) When the ingredients are processed into the consistency of wet sand, put the dough into a bowl and massage in the flour.
The next step is to give the kitty a taste of the raw treat dough. Do not skip this part!
Mold the dough into a ball and use a rolling pin to flatten it out to a rectangle of about 1/2″ thickness.
As you can see, my human does not know the meaning of “rectangle.” In any case, the next step is to use a pizza cutter to slice up the dough into bite-sized pieces.
Place the treats on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, and bake for 20 minutes. When they are done, remove the cookie sheet from the oven and place it somewhere to cool until the treats are room temperature. It is best to place them somewhere inaccessible to the cats. (My human used the counter in the master bedroom, and shut the door.)
And here is the result! Make sure to place them in an airtight container. But only after giving some immediately to the cats.
Can you believe I had to sit and stay for a treat? I’d already been waiting for an hour for these!
Yum! The final verdict? I actually preferred the treat dough to the finished product, but Binga and Boodie were perfectly happy with the cooked treats.
If you want the full Pop Sugar recipe, you can find it here.
Ooh, tasty!
Do not feed the uncooked dough to your cats people, uncooked eggs are just as bad for cats as for humans. They can have harmful bacteria that can make your cat very sick, not worth the risk!
You lucky do and so! Just don’t get busted with that bowl of green stuff!
Purrz!
Selins
Those look appealing – but I think Plush would prefer the dough too.
Wow, that looks good and not to hard – I’ll have to give it a try.
These look yummy, maybe my lazy hoomin can handle making these for us!
Bodacious
WOW….these are totally yummy looking AND sounding and I think even my Mom could handle making these for me…………..I really do!
Hugs, Teddy
I just saw your Facebook post that some of your posts aren’t being visited as much which seems crazy because I cant wait for your blog posts to come out. Since finding your blog I visit it every day because it makes my day. I love what you write and look forward to what daily adventures you’re going to be doing that day. Keep up the pawsome work Summer!!!
Forget the cat treats….. I am so in love with that blue tile!
From what I gather, you aren’t the only one! Funny because my human doesn’t particularly care for it – blue is her least favorite color.
I wonder if Pipo would like those?
He can be finicky about treats, go figure!
They do look good to petcretary!
Organic noms can be quite expensive…sheesh.
Summer you can tell your human that a white egg would have done just the same. There is no difference between the two except for the color of the feathers of the hen that laid it. The free range part is what is important
There are actually more brown eggs in the market now than white eggs! You should have seen her going crazy looking for white eggs during Easter.
OMC, those look so yummy, Summer! We love the part about giving some of the dough to your kitty!
It looks like you had a lot of fun helping, Summer. You’re very handy in the kitchen!
These look delish! We hope we get to make them here.
Those look SO yummy!!!
That was nice of your human to make them for you. I am too lazy.
Yummy
Those do look yummy! We’re glad Binga and Boodie liked them too! Our mommy tried making us treats once but she failed miserable. Maybe she’ll try these though.
Summer,
Did Boodie an’ Bing-Binga like those treats?
Toffee
oh boy those look good! thanks for sharing that recipe.
wow those look tasty. your mom is willing to do much more work for you than I am for the boyz.
Whoa! They look nommy! TW has never had a cat that liked dark meat. Then again, she never added catnip.
“Do not skip this part!” Summer, that is priceless! Unfortunately, our mom doesn’t even expend much effort to cook for herself, so we doubt she’d do that for us. They do look extra yummy, though!
We are impressed that your human made special treats for you, but then again, our #1 makes us fresh chicken for our midnight snack several evenings a week so we’re not that badly off!
Purrs,
The Chans

These look perfect Summer. I think I’ll command mommy do that.
That recipe looks great! We gotta get mom to make us some. Yummy. Thanks for the recipe Summer! Purrs
Wow, these look awesome! How lucky for you to have your human make you these homemade treats.
Those look tasty, Summer. We bet the raw dough was good too.
The dough and the treats look good to us sweet Summer!
Very nice! And we are impressed that your hoomin cooked for you.
I can see adding different types of flour or veggies to the chicken each time to make a variety of flavors for my kitties. Think I will try this way first to see how they like it.
Daedae loves green beans and I can see him devouring these treats
It was nice you enjoyed it!
Wow I need to try this!! I wonder if ours will like them?
Those look tasty!
How cool to have homemade treats!
Maybe you will like them more later.
Good to hear Binga and Boodie like them 🙂
