While much research has been done about human facial expressions, and even dog faces, nobody’s really looked into cat facial expressions. Until now. Researchers spent a year studying cats at a Los Angeles cat cafe, and discovered that cats have nearly 276 difference facial expressions! Compare that to humans, who have just 44, and dogs with a paltry 27.
Of course, if you’ve been following this blog for any length of time, you already know that cats have loads of facial expressions because you’ve seen them on me! In fact, if you’ve been a longtime follower, you may even think I have more than 276!
You will be glad to know that the researchers discovered that cats have more friendly than aggressive faces (45% to 37% respectively, with 18% going either way). I get the feeling the above photo probably lands in the 18% category.
So for fun, my human put together a graphic of a few of my many faces, which you are free to use as long as you don’t alter it in any way! I hope you enjoy it.
Here are a few more of my nearly 300 facial expressions:

Oh, forgot to say….think I’m a #5 today.
I have often thought I was reading emotions from facial expressions
on cats (and dogs). However, thought I was wrong as this didn’t seem
to be a common idea. Glad to know I was right.
Very interesting, Summer. I think I’m #6 today.
