When I was working on the documentary for the One Day on Earth project last month, I wasn’t thinking about the second annual Worldwide Movement that was coming up a month later. But when I found out that we animals around the world were invited to devote a silent minute of meditation about other creatures in need or no longer with us, it seemed like today was the perfect day for my film’s debut.
The One Day on Earth project meant to capture a 24-hour period — October 10, 2010, or 10-10-10 — that documented the human experience the world over. My human and I thought it would be even better to document 24 hours of feline experience, and of course I could not sign up for something like that without making a statement about kitties less fortunate than I am. So that is what my mini-documentary is about. It is also about the human experience because it is humans who can make a difference.
Today, November 14, at 11 PM GMT (which is 3 PM Pacific Time here), for one mintute we are all going to see how much positive energy we can send around the world through contemplation, meditation and prayer. But before it’s time, please watch my mini-documentary, A Cat Day on Earth. It will give you something to think about. If you like it, feel free to share it.
I’m not gonna cry, I’m not gonna cry! That’s so sad! We wish we could do more! But We can’t take any more cats in ’cause our owners said 2 is plenty. We were both rescuses atlest. Cheetoes = Formally an abandoned stray. My old owners kicked me out as soon as I kitted. It was late summer 2 years ago. My new lovely furever home humans offically took me in on early winter the same year. Snowball = Formally feral. I was born a feral in “Meme’s” woods be hind her house. 2 weeks after Mother’s day ?years ago I was abought a teen cat and my furever home humans brought me in. The most magical thing abought that is that my little owner had always dreamed of owning a hansome white cat most of her life and one day POOF!! Here I am! A mostly white, hansome man-cat staring up at her adoringly. We are verry lucky to now have owners to care for us. We hope more people can take action. Your movie was verry moveing Sparkle. It should help a bit more if not a lot. Oh, we just hate seening poor fellow cats like this!! I need a tisue! :BLOW!!!: :Sniffle!!: Hope,Faith,Purr, & catnip, Snowball and Cheetoes
Oh Sparkle your movie is wonderful and very moving!!
Sparkle that was just fantastic. but, I couldn’t watch all of it because it made me start crying. Rascal is also very very sorry that he didn’t get to participate yesterday and blog about it on our blog. But, his daddy, a truck driver, got to stop by unexpectedly for just a few hours and it was very excititng and busy around here.
But, Rascal and me thought about you and we remembered the day. Thank you Sparkle. I am so glad you were adopted. We adopted Mollipop too, Rascal’s doggy sister!
Have a great day Sparkle!
Rascal and mommy!:-)
What a beautiful video, Sparkle! We were all crying at the end. Mama says that if she stopped to think about all the beautiful cats that get destroyed every day just because they don’t have homes, she’d probably start crying and never stop. 🙁
We, some of your fellow blogging cats, do our best to help, too. We’re all rescue kitties and we know that if we hadn’t been lucky enough to be placed in no-kill shelters, we might have met the same fate.
My dear, I have no doubt that the video is excellent, you’re a brilliant kitty.
Wow, I don’t understand how spay and neuter is rejected by some people, yet killing perfectly healthy cats is ok. I have 3 and would one day like to adopt more! Great movie about such a huge tragedy—there are happy endings—just not enough of them!
Sparkle, My Human couldn’t even watch the whole video because it made her so sad, but we are glad you made it!
We observed our minnit of silence at 11 PM GMT. Our collar bells tinkled a little, but we stayed as quiet as possible. Even the TV was turned off.
Sparkle, that video is wonderful…sad, but wonderful. You made our mom’s eyes leak. You really hafta get more humans to see it…
A very moving video. Purrs.
Sparkle, you and your Human have done a wonderful job with the video. It is very moving and deserves a much wider audience.
Sparkle, you and your human put together a very touching documentary. Our mommy is so leaky right now she can hardly see to type. It’s so wonderful you brought attention to the plight of all the homeless kitties out there and we know you make a difference in the lives of many. Our mommy wants to help kitties too but seems to not know where to start. Thank you for sharing your video. Now we have to go get her some Kleenex and also dry off the keyboard. Hugs to you and your human for all you do! Hugs to Binga and Boodie too!
Mums eyes were leaking You showed the plight so well. So many and so heatbreaking. GJ x
Wonderfully done, Sparkle, and very powerful.
-Pip, Smidgen, Minnie
Oh Sparkle, that was beautiful. My Mommeh’s eyes leaked, too.
Sparkle, this is an incredibly powerful post. Sylvester is proud to be a part of it.
Muahahahahahahaha!! What fun! XD
Thanks for your visit and comment on our Halloween posts 🙂
Nice Sunday.
Purrrrrrrs.
That was a lovely movie but so sad…
The documentary is just…wow, it’s great! You know, in Chile (I don’t live in Chile, but I have many Chilean friends) they made a law. The law says “the only way to no stray animals is euthanasia”. How can humans let this things happen? I’m glad there’s hope: people are protesting so those ignorants can quit the law…
The human is going to show this to her friends, they don’t believe spay and neuter is a good way, because they think about is as mutilation. Also, mom has tears because of the documentary, specially the part of the pictures that said “To be destroyed”, I think they do that to make more impact in people, right? It’s sad…
Well done Sparkle!
Wonderful movie Sparkle and touching on such a vital issue – spay and neuter! It is sad to see so many lovely cats PTS. Stats say 80-90% of cats in shelters never come out alive. We will send loving energy to all these kittes and dogs.
That was very, very good and very touching.
*sob*
sorry to leave tear stains all over your blog. Powerful and totally needs to be said, but as someone who has 7 shelter cats (8 in total) and a room full of fosters (a mom and five babies) things like this makes me wish I could do so much more.
saving them once they are here is important, but stopping the overpopulation will be the only thing that can truely help. Neutering is vital.
We are lucky that were adopted quickly but looking at all those poor kitties in shelters who will be euthanised has made our mum cry.
You made our Mom cry too.
Sparkle, you made a very important statement with that video. So many cats live very different days than you and your roommates and my cats. It’s critical to create awareness and you’ve done just that. I will share this on Catladyland’s FB page.
Excellent documentary Sparkle!
Sparkle, our Mom ‘s eyes filled up too. That was such a wonderful movie and tell Mom she did a purrfect job on it. We think that movie should be on the TV so more and more people can see it. There must be a way to get people to see it. Send it to Betty White.
Anyway, that is a really good production.
Take care and have a great day.
You made the publicist cry Sparkle. She wishes she could have more kitties but 4 fills the yurt
That was truly wonderful, Sparkle. The mom is bawling her eyes out now, because the problem is so overwhelming and so many humans still don’t get it that their four-leggeds need to be spayed/neutered, not allowed to roam and breed and make more unwanted kittens.
On the good news front: Two brothers (Footloose and Fancy Free), one with 3 legs, were FINALLY adopted this weekend, and together. The mom has been repeatedly featuring them in a local Gananoque newspaper, on behalf of the Gananoque & District Humane Society, and she got an email from one of the shelter staff that a couple adopted both yesterday. Hurray!
Beautiful video, Sparkle. You captured the problem and shed light on it. I will send others to see it today…
pawhugs, Max
That was a brilliant movie Sparkle.
