I have a big announcement, especially if you are a rescue cat who is also a writer or aspiring writer! My human’s independent publishing company is putting together an anthology of rescue cat stories! And she doesn’t want human-written stories — she is looking for stories written by cats! I guess I have taught her well after all.
You can read about it and find out the submission guidelines here, but I will give you the basics. She will need 12 stories from 12 cats, each between 3,000 and 5,000 words, and the net profits will be split in thirds: a third to the writers, a third to the publishing company and best of all, a third to cat rescue! And it gets even better because each cat will have their own rescue that they support. For the first 13 months of the book’s release, each cat will be assigned a month (except December, 2014 ). When each cat’s month comes up, that is their time to promote their book (and get their human to help), and the rescue profits for that month will go to the rescue they have chosen! At the end of 13 months, the cat whose month earned the most sales will also see their rescue get December’s rescue profits — that is pretty awesome because December is a big sales month for books (it is also why my human separated December from the other months — any cat given that month would have an unfair advantage).
My human is not only looking for cats who write well, she is also looking for cats who are social media savvy, and I know a bunch my friends are amazing at both! Kitties with blogs or a solid Facebook presence will get priority consideration.
I am so excited about this project because I know it will involve a number of friends of mine, and it will help kitties in need! Do you want to be part of it? Find out how to submit here! Submissions close October 1, 2013, so start putting together your samples soon!

That sounds great. I’ll check it out!
How exciting! This will be a fantastic project and book, what a great idea Sparkle!
What a wonderful idea!!! Very nice of the publisher to include a cat rescue in the profit sharing 🙂
Hello Sparkle, well I am a rescue kitty with an interesting backstory to tell, but I ain’t telling no one what happened to me BC (Before Caro!) I am a Cat of Mystery (amongst other things) 😉
Looks like a great new project for all the rescue cats out there.
We have had several rescue kitties and will give it some serious thought. This is a great idea!
This sounds very exciting and Mom would be interested expect she has too much to do already taking care of us. Maybe we can convince her.
Hmmm, can I use an old blog of mine where I talk about my adoption? TW better not write about any of her other kittehs since all were rescues. Anyhoo, this is a great idea.
Hi Sparkle,
We’d definitely be interested. Both Waffles and I were rescue kitties.
: ) Katie
How cool!! I am totally going to start my dictation!!
Wonderful idea! However, may I ask that you define “solid Facebook presence”?
Also, sometimes it is the little guys who don’t have a huge number of “LIKES” who need the most attention. It could be that their human rescuer doesn’t have the time or know-how to promote their FB page so much. The cat may be very special, like most cats are, but has never had a breakthrough that would catapult it through the 10’s 1000’s of “LIKES” mark. Would that be something the publishers could consider?
Thank you!
Solid Facebook presence basically means that you work the page – post often, interact with fans who post on your page, post or comment on other cat or cause pages, or that your own page has its own personality. I do agree, it’s not necessarily having tens of thousands of Likes, it’s more a matter of having a good community feel on your page.
BTW, I looked at your page and is awesome! And I bet you have a really cool story to tell.
Thank you! In that case, onwards we move towards submitting Lucy’s story. 🙂
Well, I have three rescue kitties and two of them love to write. This sounds like a really great project that is a win-win for everyone!
We love the sound of this and can’t wait to hear who might participate. We bet the stories will be pawsome! Purrs…
Good luck to any of the wonderful kitties who get their stories published!
All of my family’s kitties are always rescue kitties. xoxox
I got Mommy to help me with a submission. I hope I did it right. ~Scylla
😀 My furr parents have only rescued 6 cats, 4 of us are still around, but when i was rescued mommys big orange Tabby named Chesterfield Snapdragon McFisticuffs taught me how to detect mommys seizures before they happen, pretty cool huh. He also taught me to fetch which I have now taught our newest rescue Sterling. I have two other brothers, Maxwell Silver Hammer, a snowshoe, she brought home from a spay and neuter clinic, he was ferel. Then there is Alexander Christopher, he had a bullet wound when he was rescued, hes old now, but still puts up a good fight, it helps that he has 6 toes.
What a pawesome idea! We’re both rescue cats but not sure how well we write or if we have enough presence. We’ll check it out though!
That is so cool Sparkle and there are some darn good steories here, if we only had the time.
Great idea!
Our Mommy is such a lazy bumm! She started Sima’s story long time ago, and it will be another looooong time before it gets finished! Good luck to all other contestants 🙂
Sparkle this is wonderful. Do you think that Sherpa the Farm cat has enough “presence?”
This is such a great project! Both my boys are rescue cats, I wonder if they want to write their stories 🙂
Scouty has a half-written story he might have to dust off and polish up!
Go for it! All Real Rescue Cats Are Talking interviewees have stories almost written!
Raz is a rescue kitty. We’re not great writers though.

Hmmm… Very interestin’… Very interestin’, indeed. I was a rescue cat, you. Hmmm…. purrs
Nissy, you’d for sure get picked to have your story in the book. You better start writing now. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Two of us are rescues for sure, so that means we would love to read about other cats who were rescued!

We agree with the Kitties Blue – Uncle Ryker’s story was quite dramatic but of course he’s supervising from across the Bridge at this point.
But what a fantastic concept!
Sparkle, I shared on my FB and Moms and on CWB Group and tweeted
Sparkle, this sounds absolutely so super exciting. Mom is going to check out the submissions policy as soon as we finish our comment. We do have a question, though. Can the story be written by a kitty who has already gone to the Rainbow Bridge? This may be in the Submission guidelines, but if not, can you please let us know? Our brofur Madison would like to tell you his story…or maybe Skooter or MacKenzie or Chloe. They’ll have to fight it out among themselves. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo 😀
A very pawsome project! I will encourage all the Real Rescue Cats Are Talking interviewees I have meowed with over the last year to consider pawticipating. I will look at the details, not sure I know enough about my life before rescue…but I bet Leo’s story would be a good one….thank you Sparkle for having this opportunity for Real Rescue Cats Talk for themselves. Paw pats, Savannah
That is such a good idea. It should be fun to read whenever it is done.
I was borned in this house but Humom and me thinks that will be a pawsome book to read! 😀
I tweeted this and shared this on Cody’s Facebook page. Unfortunately, I do not qualify. Cody was living with a foster when I adopted him from a Petco adoption event and he was approx 10 wks old when I adopted him, so he thankfully didn’t experience the challenges that many of YOUR rescue cats have. Good luck to all who enter!
I would love to be kept in mind for reviewing the book though! 😎
How cool is this? I made MomKatt print it out & am going to seriously lobby her to help me do this!
Purrz!
Selina
This sounds like an amazing project…but who would we choose? Wubbikins certainly is going to think she is top cat in the house..but not so quick! Cod help us….we will have a family meeting to talk and meow about it!
What an exciting project! Every cat in this house is a rescue including myself so my human and I are going to definitely consider submitting something! Meow and Namaste! ~ Pippy the Feline Yogini
One of my kitties came from a rescue and one from a shelter but neither of them write or have an interesting story either. BB, the rescue cat had an easier time than Miss Frankie the shelter cat (even tho BB was rescued from a shelter)…Miss Frankie lived for months in a cage and BB got to be free in a house with people and other cats…Makes a big difference with babies.
The idea is fantastic, Sparkle. I’m sure the book will be a huge success. And thank you so much for your comforting comment on my blog.
what a wonderful event we are looking forward to hearing more.
hugs madi your bfff
We are both rescue cats – Mum didn’t rescue us from our first home as the RSPCA did that (over a 100 cats and kittens) but she found us there and brought us home with her.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
What a great project! Since Lucy is a rescue, I have to check it out!
What a fantastic project! We’re not rescue cats as such. The woman ‘rescued’ Thomas from a pet shop and she ‘rescued’ Lola from an online recycling site.
We love this idea and I would be very interested to compose some humble words about my story.
But is it open to non-US cats ? Äiti has had a quick look in the guidelines and couldn’t find any info on this.
It’s a brilliant idea. And most important, we kitties tell the stories.
YES! to international submissions! The only difference is that the minimum payout would probably be a little higher, and most likely not by check. And the rescue supported would still have to be a US 501(c)3.
Thank you for this, Sparkle. We shall get working on it. And we were assuming the rescue would have to be in the US, which is great.
What a great project! The head peep is a writer — both as a day job, and has a manuscript in revision. Our social media presence may not be strong enough to help carry the project, but we will read up on this, for sure!
Wow! What a great project! It will help lots of kitties! Have a great week.
Sounds like a really cool project!!!
WE are not great writers, but we will think about it.
We bet there are many very neat rescue stories
our friends have to tell !!
