It’s Adopt an Imprisoned Feline Overlord Month!

June 4, 2012 By: Sparkle Cat24 Comments

I think I am a benevolent dictator. My human does not agree.

As you may recall, on Friday I announced that June 24 is Cat World Domination Day (also my birthday). I think it is important to add that many of our fellow Feline Overlords are currently unfairly imprisoned and need to be rescued! The humans call June “Adopt a Shelter Cat Month” but I prefer to think of it as “Release Feline Overlords From Prison Month!”

This is actually a very serious issue because many of these cats sit on death row for no crime other than the lack of a kingdom to rule. If you can do something that saves even one innocent cat from execution, then you have done something great for Catkind.

There are two ways you can make the most of Release Feline Overlords From Prison Month:

1. You can spread the word in many different ways, from word of mouth to social networking to actually convincing someone you know to rescue a cat. Petfinder has 10 brilliant suggestions, many of which are very simple to do!

2. You can go down to your local kill shelter and save a cat yourself. And don’t give me that nonsense about it being “too painful to see all those poor cats.” How do you think “all those poor cats” feel? Believe me, it’s a lot worse than you! So suck it up, drive down there with a carrier and bring home a Feline Overlord. You know you need one (or two). American Humane has 10 helpful suggestions if you are man (or woman) enough to take the plunge.

And there is one more thing you can do, whether you have room in your home for another Feline Overlord or not: visit your local city animal control facility and ask them to take part in the Just One Day movement on June 11. This group is trying to make the U.S. a no-kill nation for “just one day,” and even if they are not 100% successful with every kill shelter in every state, it will make a big difference to those imprisoned pets who otherwise would be put to death that day. For more information, visit the Just One Day website, or the Just One Day Facebook page.

Oh Sparkle, You always tell it like it is, my friend. One day, and that day is not today, the Human might consider a second Overlord. But there are Issues to Be Considered. Meanwhile, we will do the best we can with our green papers.

We like your name much better! Our mom talks about adopting from the shelters to everyone she can. She would love to have a purebred cat, but has always taken in strays or adopted from shelters instead.

BTW, there were 2 tornadoes less than a half hour drive from Frederick on Friday, with 9 total confirmed tornadoes, and counting… There were 2 within 10m miles of our house too.

We regret that TBT has declared “The Zen State of Feline Balance in the House Shall Not Be Disturbed or Risked”! So we will hope that uncatted or insufficiently catted Beins evrywhere will find space for our imprisoned brethren.

Great advice Sparkle. We are at our “Feline Overlord” maximum right now, but I will try to help in other ways.

I will spread the word even if I REFUSE to let my peeps bring another overlord into this tiny condo. This Warlord has declared war on any Overlord who dares enter her domain.

Great advice and guess what? I DEFINITELY did my part!

Yesterday I was at the Adoption event at Kitty City and saw 3 yr old cat that I completely fell in love with.

I couldn’t have him for a variety of reasons. So, I did the next best thing. I BOUGHT HIM for a family that was there that also had fallen in love with him. Yep, I did! I paid the $59 adoption fee and the adorable kitty got his furever home!

I will be blogging about it soon

It is unfair that many cats have to be on death row for no crime. Thank you for raising the awareness.

We hope you raise everyone’s awareness to this barbaric act of killing all healthy animals who are sitting patiently waiting for someone to love them and take them home.

We adopted an older cat from our shelter because I felt so bad it was in that little cage for so long, months and months! I didn’t know much about cats having never had one before but learned along the way and never regretted getting it. Since then, I got two more and can’t imagine not having a cat ever again.
