Sixty-seven shelter kitties who were adopted and rescued this past Saturday at the pet-friendly Hotel Palomar in Westwood! Best Friends Animal Society and Much Love Animal Rescue teamed up to put on this fabulous event. It even had a red carpet and velvet rope!
I did not attend, but I sent my human to cover it and bring back all the details. It was a star-studded affair. My human saw Otto, the motorcycle-riding companion of cat guy/ filmmaker Christopher Coppola.
Otto got to walk the red carpet.
But the real stars of the event were the 137 homeless kitties who were brought in from various Los Angeles city and county shelters. They were all hoping to be adopted so that they did not have to go back!
They all got star-studded pseudonyms for the day.
And the humans who adopted a kitty that day got a goody bag full of cool stuff, including litter, a scratcher, and even a bookmark that lists cat rules… from me!
Plus they got an award!
While the aCATemy Awards was a great success and lots of kitties got adopted, some are still looking for homes. Surprisingly, nobody snatched up this mother-son pair. Fortunately, Much Love Animal Rescue took them in, so they will be looking for a home from a safe haven.
Here are a couple of kitties who, according to the L.A. Animal Services website, are still looking for homes. They are at East Valley Animal Care and Control Center in Van Nuys. This is Kyle:
This friendly guy is Tangy — he has been at the shelter since December 31:
Even if you missed the aCATemy Awards, you still have the chance to be a star by adopting a kitty from your local shelter!
Greetings Sparkle,
We think this was a terrific event and wish we had one here in northern California.
By the way, we hope you will be considering to enter our photo contest, just make sure to check the technical requirements.
Warmest regards,
Miss Kitty and Egmont
What a wonderful post! That’s just great that ll those kitties got adopted, thanks for spreading the good news!
I keep trying to adopt a kitty from a local shelter but Small Town Daddy wont let me. He seems to be under the mistaken impression that 2 cats are enough. I am glad that some of those kitties were able to get adopted.
Yay for the kitties who found furever homes! We hope the others all find furever homes soon too! What a great event too. We wish more cities did events like this to help kitties!
That looks like a great event!
Wow! 67 lucky kitties and their furever People–that’s wonderful.
I hope ALL of them find good homes soon.
Fabulous!
67 that is just the cat’s meow.

The photo of the two kitties hugging tore my heart out 🙁

Beautiful kitties and a wonderful event! I hope the ones that did not get adopted find families very, very soon. So glad you could participate, Sparkle!
It’s a good thing our Daddy wasn’t there…we’d have 137 new brofurs and sissers!
Such a beautiful event, they are all stars in my book!
What cool awards! I hope lots of kitties found homes!
That is wonderful about the kitties who found homes. I hope the others will find theirs soon.
YAY for the kitties that found homes…..and we are purraying for the others…that they will find loving forever homes quickly.
Otto is a hunk! What a star!
We think it’s such a cool idea to hold this kind of event to get deserving cats a better chance of finding their forever homes. My momma Ellie and I are gonna purr extra hard for the mom and son pair to find a fabulous home together.
What a great post, Sparkle! We have seen Otto on TV before. It’s cool how he rides the motorcycle with his dad! What a great idea for finding homes for kitties, too. It looks like they went all out. I hope the other kitties find homes soon, too. They are all so loving and cute!
Maybe they’ll do something like that here. Gee, with statuettes like those, who needs Oscar?
Hugs,
Tom
