A few weeks ago, my human posted in our neighborhood’s Facebook group. She was looking for offices for me to visit since I have so many neckties now. She figured it would be a fun way for me to keep up my social skills and create some photo ops. Just by good luck, the first person to respond works at the Los Angeles Animal Services office! She thought it would be really fun for me to come down, and she could post about the visit on the LAAS Instagram.
I got a warm reception in the lobby area, and my human let me walk on my leash to the conference room. They put up a sign for me!
Once I settled in on the conference room table, lots of people stopped by to pet me and hang out with me. It was kind of like being on a therapy visit, actually! I could tell they all enjoyed being around me. I enjoyed it too and purred a lot and made happy paws.
Of course I didn’t sit on the table the whole time. I sat on a chair too, like a proper business cat.
I also got to sit in an office cubicle, like a real employee, even though I needed help navigating to the LAAS website.
While I was visiting, I found out about a really awesome adoption drive the LAAS is having! The ASPCA gave them a $200,000 grant to help cats. So they are able to offer free adoptions for any cat four months old or older. That means that a total of 8,000 cats in Los Angeles city shelters will have their adoption fees covered! (All other adoption polices remain in effect, of course.) Adoption from LAAS includes spay or neutering, vaccinations and microchipping.
If you are in the area and want to check out the adoptable kitties, visit LAAnimalservices.com.
As many of you know, Binga is an LAAS alumnus. The humans got her from the North Central Shelter in October, 2000! And my human always tells people to look at the city shelters first when they are searching for a cat to adopt. Please help spread the word about Los Angeles’ adoptable shelter cats — so many of them need homes!
