A Tuesday Tail Tale

August 30, 2011 By: Sparkle Cat42 Comments

We had some excitement here the other day. Unfortunately, only the aftermath got documented.

This is the tail end!

My human was in the bedroom late one afternoon a few days ago, reading a book, when she heard a ruckus in the bathroom. So she went to investigate and she saw Binga staring at some icky worm writhing around on the tile.

Hint: this is NOT a worm!

Well, of course any smart creature would have figured out right away that it wasn’t a worm at all, but a lizard tail! And while my human was getting grossed out by this “worm,” I had grabbed the tail-less lizard in my mouth and run away with it! Unfortunately, my human did catch on after a few moments and took the lizard away from me. It was still alive, and she went outside with it. In fact she was out there for like 10 minutes, talking to it. I was disgusted.

I would have preferred the whole lizard.

At least I still had the tail. And it was still moving!

Okay, so maybe it DID look kind of like an icky worm.

I got in as much play as I could because I knew that as soon as my human came back in the house, she was going to take it away too. I guess I’m lucky she spent a few minutes taking photos first.

Darn. And I thought I was going to have a lizard lunch.

That’s is so strange that the tail would keep moving after being cut off! I guess it’s the same principle as a ‘chicken running around with its head cut off”.

So who did the dirty deed of severing the tail from its owner? Was that you Sparkle, or was it Binga!

I imagine the lizard can still live without its tail, although it would likely be labelled ‘disabled’.

    Quite the excitement!

Last summer, Dante brought a little garter snake inside and was playing with it in the family room. It was trying to play dead, but wasn’t. I scooped it up in a container and let it go outside.

Harley is always catching lizards, and since he knows they get taken away, he has learned to swallow them in one gulp. Our vet told my Mommeh that eating lizards can cause liver flukes in cats!

She talked to it? What do you suppose she said?? Do you think she apologized for your bad manners in trying to kill it? Did it accept the apology? There has to be Part II to this story, MOL!

How fun! Sparkle, you are lucky to have a lizard come into your house. For all the bugs we get inside, we have yet to have a lizard – and since we’re not allowed out any more, we can only drool at them through the window. Too bad you couldn’t have snacked on the lizard (or tail) before your mom-person intervened.

We don’t have lizards here and the flies are no fun.

We live in Florida, so lizards are always the special du Jour…. Depsite that, no matter how many times we catch one (they are surprisingly slow and lazy) our human gets all bent out of shape. She does not like to pick them up, so she kind of gently sweeps them into a dustpan as she gingerly runs to awkwardly open the door without one of the seven of us getting out!!! Good God woman, is it really worth all that fuss? She seems to think so….

Happy hunting to you Sparkle! Love to you from Zee, Zoey, Mia, Peanut, Rolz, Harley, and Jazz. Concats on the Petties win too!

It seems to us that once lizards come into your house, they are fair game to become a snack! It was not fair of your human to put it back outside again since that is breaking the rules!

Bugsy and Knuckles had a lizard cornered a couple of weeks ago. It too had no tail. I think that is the first thing to go. HH said that it grows back if the lizard lives through the feline encounter.

    Have a great day…
