Thursday Gardening Tragedy

July 28, 2011 By: Sparkle Cat58 Comments

I am SO not happy right now!

Leave it to my human to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The gardener came by the other day and my human, thinking he had seen my nip plant growing for the past several weeks, would just let it be like always. But look:

Months of hard work down the drain.

It is gone! There is nothing, not even a sprout coming back up. My dreams of fresh nip are over!

Sigh

I give up.

YOU ARE KIDDING!! That can’t be!! I would track down the culprit and do some damage!! Nip thieving should be a crime punishable by life in prison! Man oh man….we can send you some of our nip if you want…..to tide you over until you get a new nip plant. You will get a new nip plant won’t you? You must!! Every cat with a garden must have a nip plant. Not having one is like not having oxygen in the air!! Let us know about the nip care package and we’ll zip one off to you as soon as you say the word. K? Purrs and hang in there o’ nip-less one!! Lautrec, Tiny and EllDawgOh

    I am so sorry, Sparkle.
What a terrible loss! But maybe your human will try again if she reads these comments. Please, Sparkle’s Human, grow some more cat nip for her!

My human has decided to have potted plants on this enclosed balcony in our new home. Maybe I can convince her to grow cat nip or at least cat grass there.

    Good luck, Sparkle.

THE gardener must have thought it was a weed. My catnip grew a lot this summer as it was wetter and cooler than usual. I hope your mummy plants a new one and puts a notice beside it saying CATNIP DO NOT TOUCH.

Poor Sparkle! It’s difficult to survive such tragedy and go on with life, but I’m sure you’ll dig deep (no pun intended) and find the will to live without catnip. Believe me, it can be done.

Just because catnip might be classified as a “weed” that does not give the garderner the right to get rid of it without any say so. Why would plain dirt be preferable to the greenary of the nip.

The gardener MURDERED your nip plant!! Someone call 911! We will hunt him/her down and make them pay—or at least buy you a new plant. If they buy it, maybe they won’t pull it out. Or maybe your human should’ve made one of those little signs announcing it was a nip plant. Either way, gardener shouldn’t get paid this week.

There must be a nip thief coming to your garden. This is very tragic. We had the same thing happen. It was coming along great, then -gone.

We have some in a pot now. Still vulnerable, even on the deck, however, still growing….for now.

What? OMC, how could this happen? Your human had better get you a new plant, pronto. Maybe put some stakes or some sort of barrier around it, so the clueless gardener doesn’t destroy another plant!

The same thing happened here one year. I had grown some catnip along the edges of the lawn, and my lawn service thought it was a weed and killed it with the weedwacker. My girls were not amused. Faithful cat servant that I am, I immediately went to the nursery and got more – that batch lived in a pot on the deck, away from the evil weedwacker.

Sparkle, that’s a horrible thing, but we have learned on our balcony that these are very hardy plants and there’s a good chance it still might make it! Ours is doing pretty well in the Phoenix heat, even in the summer (though we water them a lot too)!
