Sometimes what a therapy cat visit lacks in numbers, it makes up for in other ways. I actually only saw two patients today in the areas I regularly go to, but it was still an amazing visit.
My first stop this time was Labor and Delivery. There were no patients available to visit, but there were sure a whole bunch of nurses who were thrilled to see me! They love the therapy animals there and honestly, I reveled in their attention. I even showed off my high five skills.
On the way to Pediatrics, I stopped by a waiting room because a woman wanted to visit with me. That was a nice break.
Although there were three patients in Pediatrics, only one was up to see me. But it was an awesome visit. The little girl was in bed with some sort of finger monitor, and I got to curl up with her while she petted me. Since she was the only patient I was seeing on that floor, I got to hang out as much as I wanted. She even got to rub my tummy.
We had extra time before our next stop, so we popped into the Residents Workroom. That was fun too!
Our final stop was the Cancer Center. After saying hello to some of the patients in the waiting room, we went to Infusion. A lady who was getting a treatment wanted to see me. She had a big pillow on her lap and I relaxed there for a long time while she chatted with my human and the nurse and petted me. I don’t get to visit with the patients getting chemo very often, so it was a treat. I didn’t even want to get up to go home.
So yeah, it was only two patients. But the value everyone got out of it can’t be measured.

Summer we can only imagine the joy mew must bring on your visits to the hospital!
Summer you bring some distraction as well as affection to those who need it……years ago when I was having infusions in the hospital some dogs visited us and it was such a welcome thing to those of us there……I would have loved having a kitty visitor though!
Hugs, Pam
Summer, you are such a special kitty that you are intuitive to other humans feelings. I had chemo a long time ago and I would have been overjoyed to see you and pet you. It’s a very difficult time. You’re my hero
So glad you made those patients happy, Summer!
It would have been wonderful to have a kitty visit me when I was getting my infusions a long long time ago…
You made those patients’ days, Summer. You literally changed their lives today with your visit, and that is so special.
Another good visit. I always like to read about your visits.
I bet they were very happy to see you!
Wevery person you help is an important help !
I am sure you made the day of those two that you did see and anyone that even saw you in the building. XO
I would love to have you curl up next to me, and purr!
You made those two patients’ days, I just know it!
I think it is wonderful you are a therapy cat, Summer. I have been in the hospital a number of times and I know I DON’T want a visit from a dog…I want a CAT! My kitties at home are the best possible therapy. I have two Somalis, an Oriental Shorthair, and two rescues.
Love to read about your therapy visits. You must be such a comfort to the patients!
Oh, TW would give anything to have a cat on her lap during infusion. So stressful if you don’t have good veins. Was if the finger monitor was to message her oxygen. They love those things.
You are a rock star and we wish you lived closer.
What a wonderful visit and we know the ones you did see were so happy you came!
That does sound like a purrfectly wonderful visit sweet Summer!
You are very special, Summer.
Oh yes indeed Summer, you really helped the patients you saw, and the nurses too!
Sumer, I love hearong about your visits. I always smile when I know you’re going to the hospital. Wish I could be so fortunate as to meet you.
I think if you only helped one person, that would be enough, especially for that one person.
I think you would have been a great comfort to the lady in the infusion room.
