I don’t look very happy in this photo, do I? And who can blame me — I am about to endure one of the worst parts of being a kitty: a visit to the vet! My human wanted to discuss some hairball solutions for me since I seem to have them fairly frequently and I hate all the over-the-counter remedies. I really think she could have done this without my presence, but she dragged me along anyway. And it did give the chance to review their Cattitude Room.
With the help of Feliway, making this room cat-only (no dog checkups!) and other things, they’ve supposedly made this examination room more cat-friendly. This is supposed to be a good thing for kitties like me who are very, very nervous at the vet.
The inside of the door had a poster that was supposed to welcome all kitties, no matter our disposition.
There was even cat art… along with a frightening gingivitis poster.
So what did I think of this “Cattitude Room?” I tell you what I thought of it:
I gave the Cattitude Room a big paws down. No matter how you slice it, I’m still at a vet clinic!
Can I go home now?
P.S. All that trouble, and the vet told my human to give me Pepcid (which she was supposed to do before but keeps forgetting). It’s not a hairball remedy, but it helps my stomach and esophagus feel better. Maybe someday they will make hairball gel that tastes exactly like KFC!
Oh Sparkle, I feel for you sweetheart. I am very scared of the vet too. A cat only room probably wouldn’t help me either. Did your Human ever try to give you “NaturVet Natural Hairball Aid with Catnip”? It’s the only one that Neytiri and I like. We hope that you will feel better.
Awwww Sparkle! Sorry it was not a fun trip….but the KFC flavor is a great idea!
Our Mom takes us to a “Cats Only” vet or she calls the “Housecall Vet” so we don’t have to do the road trip thing. Bean does not travel well at all and is allergic to something in her car–could be the horse stuff or barn dust–so if he has to go for a dental or something she has to get a friend or her brother to transport him. Lots of times she will just call the housecall vet when we are really sick so as to not stress us out even further and he is a really great vet! His call-out fee is quite reasonable, too.
Several of us have had VERY severe hairball problems in spite of using certain hairball preparations. One episode with Serafina cost our Mom over $1,000.00!–She would not eat for almost two days, aspirated one of the meds, and Mom thought the housecall vet was going to be sending out change of address cards because he was at the house so often! Bean actually developed a blockage but the housecall vet stuffed him full of barium and all sorts of other goo and he passed it 2-1/2 days later. That vet saved her a bundle of money–otherwise surgery!
We hope you are feeling better, Sparkle, and that those nasty hairballs go away. Tell your Mom to find a vet who will come to visit or her furniture will die a slow and horrible death by claws! Purrs…
I’m not keen on the vet either but the last time I when mummy took me out of the carrier so I could noes about on the seats and thne I could flop to keep cool,so it wasn’t so bad,xx Speedy
I understand. I feel the same way when I go to the doctor.
I think somekitty needs to decorate the walls of that room with some (Human) bloods!! You look soooooooo adorable curled up in your little carrier even though I suppose you were really, really mad.
hi Sparkle! get well soon
So sorry you had to go to the vet. One of us left a couple of hairballs this week but we’re not telling who, so both of us got some Laxatone! However, we love our Laxatone and lick it right from the tub.
Well, at least the Vet is TRYING to make things less bad. Have you thought that mebbe you would have felt even MORE annoyed if there hadnt been the special room?
Sparkle, we’re with you. They can do whatever they want to the room, it’s still the vet’s and we won’t like it!
We hope your human remembers to give you the pepcid and you stop horking up those hairballs.
We have a “cat room” at our vet’s too–what a joke! It’s still HORRIBLE and we HATE going!
OMC! I didn’t think big stars such as yourself had to go to the v-e-t! Did you get stabbed and poked and anal probes? Cod, I hoe not. TW used to give Nicky some hairball stuff he LOVED. He seemed to think it was food.
I think they care about your well being, Sparkle. I think there’s a picture of a parrot or something in the room I usually get. (My mom says it reminded her of posters on the ceilings of dentist offices, though.)
I hate the vet too Sparkle! So sorry your human made you endure such a trip. Make sure she give you plenty of treats to make up for it. Meow and Namaste! ~ Pippy the Feline Yogini
That catitude room seems awfully nice, but you are right … it still means you are at the vets, and nothing good ever happens there!
Sorry, Sparkle…seems we all have to endure those dreaded visits. That’s really nice though that they’ve tried to make it more comfortable. That’s what our Vet does too. But once they had to bring me to the DOG side to get weighed on a DOG scale. I’m scarred for life.
; ) Katie
We tried to give Chica Pepcid but she would spit out the pill every time! Hope it works better for you. Nice catitiude room tho.
You need to find that secret KFC Hairball Remedy Sparkle!
Sparkle, I reckon you could help them decorate their cattitude room!
Sparkle I hope your hairballs go away. My kitties don’t like going to the vet no matter what it looks like. W
Yeah, I’d give it a paws down too. Who needs a room when you can have the whole house and really? Who wants the vet clinic?
The V-E-T cannot be improved, no matter how hard they try. I just get mad when I get taken there. They write patronizing nicknames on my carrier when I have to stay. “Sweet William” I am not and they know it. On the other hand, I love my hair ball syrup, they gave me Laxanip kind, I like the tuna one too though. I think its tasty, Mum may try to find the Friskies treats that someone above mentioned, not sure I’ll like them though, since they are soft not crunchy.
That was a nice try by the vet to make you think you weren’t there with that kitty room but we would’ve figured it out too. So the solution is to make your tummy feel better with Pepcid yet you’ll still have hairballs? We’re confused.
We agree … It’s STILL the vet!
Yes, Sparkle, Friskies Oh No Hairball treats always worked for my Tara too 🙂
How clever of you to turn a frightening vet visit into a purrfect blog post…so glad you’re back home safe and sound 🙂
I am sorry you are having hairballs Sparkle. Pumpkin the Farm cat does too. SPECTACULAR ones according to the publicist.
You should HEAR her when she steps in one.
It is not pretty.
So Sparkle, is your Human a good piller?
We think any vet’s office is bad–except Felix, who is secretly in lurve with the lady vet!
We had a big fluffy cat who was a hairball hacking pro – we gave him the malt flavor hairball medicine and he loved it – but then he loved anything that could be remotely construed as food!
Or bacon; though, we have had neither. We were just telling Austin at Catachresis that we think our mom is brain dead. Maybe yours is as well if she keeps forgetting about the Pepcid. We had no idea cats could have that people medicine…not that we want any. Sorry about the Vet visit. That really sucks when you didn’t even have to be there. I know I´m one crazy swede !
But I actually like going to the Vet and I LOVE to explore the examinationroom 😀
Glad that you did OK at the vet , even if you didn´t like their Catitude room.
XOXO

Oh No; Hairball

N yep…itz…
BURD flavored 😯
You read our post about the “feline-friendly” exam room http://opcatchat.blogspot.com/2013/05/a-crisis-averted.html
lol!
And…Cody was just there this week….he always behaves super well, but when the doctor took too long to see him he jumped OFF of the exam table and marched right back to his carrier! lol
Oooo KFC! Dudette, now you’re talking!
And yeah … it’s STILL a vet office, no matter how they dress it up.
PURRZ!
Selina
Oh SPARKLE! What you had to enDURE! You are a hero!
Oh Sparkle, what a good idea to have the cat lax taste like KFC. We might even eat it then. Our Mom found some hair ball treats that all of us just love. Not sure it helps though. Sorry you had to go to the vet.
The Stabby Place – YUCK! We’re glad you made it back home safely.
Sparkle, we feel for your pain and your fear. We heard Mum saying “OK, see you on August, 12th with Loupi” on the phone, and we know that it was not for a garden pawty… Going to the V-E-T is not a picnic !
Sparkle we feel for your pain yesterday at the stabby place. The only time we willingly go into our carriers is when the vets have finished torturing us and we can go home. Of course Mum tries to get in to the carrier too when she’s seen the charges!!
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
