I had a new experience today! I got to visit the USC campus for their “Pause for Paws” event. They have them pretty regularly. I’ve been to a college campus before, but this was a bigger, older campus. In fact, I hear it is pretty famous.
The event was super organized by the students. Somebody was waiting for me and my human right outside the parking structure, and she took us to the “Pause for Paws” spot. I had my own area because the dog with the other team wasn’t cat friendly. There was a friendly dog there, though — Beau, who is USC’s full time Wellness dog. He was funny because although he was so much bigger than me, he was a little bit scared of me! They got a photo of us together.
The students were thrilled that a therapy cat came to spend time with them! I constantly had a crowd around me. It was a little overwhelming at first, because I was so out in the open and not totally sure of my surroundings. After a while, my human let me stay in my carrier and kept it completely open so people could pet me. But you know me, I only stayed there a little and the moment I felt more confident, I wanted to wander and explore! I couldn’t, though — I had to stay in place and be adored by a bunch of college students. Yeah, that was actually pretty awesome!
My human enjoyed it too because it was a lot more informal than the hospital visits, and instead of asking if people wanted to see me, people just came over and sat down with us. Lots of the students told my human stories about their cats back home, and I could tell they missed them. I was glad I was there for them.
So what kept catching their eyes about me? My floofy toes? My green eyes? My fluffy tail? No, it was this:
The “Canine Good Citizen” badge on my therapy vest! They thought it was funny. Several of them took photos of it. I wish there were more therapy cats so we could have our own good citizen badges.
You know what would be the most refreshing thing about a college campus visit?
Seeing fraternity boys and male athletes (especially football players) petting you, taking pictures, and enjoying their time with you!
REAL men love cats! (especially pretty female tabby cats)
Maybe your humom could take that badge and put feline embroidery over the canine part…MOL! Afterall you *are* a good citizen and deserve recognition as the kitty who you are.
How cool that you got to make so many students happy.
That’s so awesome, Summer. Those USC students sure are lucky to have you and your human visit them!
Queen of the Campus that is most definitely you Summer and of course the students wanted to see you,I mean you’re just to adorable and gorgeous for them not to want to see you,xx Speedy
That was a fun outing!
what a cool thing to do, Summer! our mom wishes there was something like that when she was in school. We don’t think we knew that the badge on your vest said canine good citizen. there should be a badge for cats!
pip, smidgen, minnie, hollie, sharpie, ditto
What a fun experience for you and all the students, Summer. Sounds like you handled it like a pro.
You are one lucky kitty, Summer. So young and quite a traveler already.

Purrs Georgia,Julie and JJ
There should definitely be a Feline Good Citizen badge! And I’m willing to bet that before long you’ll be enrolled in college, Summer!
That adventure sounded enjoyable for both you and the students. We love the photo of you with Beau. Maybe next time you visit we can take a photo of you and Wilhelmina together 🙂
the critters in the cottage xo
What a fun visit for you Summer! We’re glad you are able to bring smiles to so many! Wonder if your human’s boyfriend has figured out he’s not the only star in the household! 🙂
That was a great visit. Of course there should be a Feline Good Citizen badge!
Wow. Summer you are truly amazing! Not only are you stunningly beautiful … but you’re brave (especially with that large dog!) and your facial expressions crack us up.
It sounds like tons of fun ! Beau is such a big boy, that’s a great photo with you ! Purrs
It sounds like an amazing day! What a wonderful event for students.
Beau is ginormous! Goodness me Summer you are a brave gal!!
We just love how you get involved in your community
Hugs madi your bfff
Sounds like an exciting day. Sorry your beauty had to take a second seat to that dog patch.
What a fun time Summer! Well done!
How totally awesome and overwhelming at the same time. Great job! I think we would have freaked out being outside and so many humans. You really wowed them too! What a great visit. We love your “canine” badge but we gotta work on establishing the “feline” badge. Happy Feline Friday! Purrs
mom says she would have loved to have cat visits on campus when she was in college
Sounds as if you made a lot of students happy, Summer. Bet you were ready for a long nap when you got home. Job well done again. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy
You sure get to a lot of places, I know you make everyone happy where you go. It bothers me that they allow a dog to be a therapy dog if they are not cat friendly, they should have to be tolerant of everything.
My first two years of college were spent at USC!!
You need a USC Song Girl outfit!
You could rush on Greek Row, and get into ANY sorority of your choice! Any sorority would love you to be their “Sorority Cat!”
You certainly are a people-person…er, um…I mean…kitty, Summer!
What a wonderful day for you, and everyone else. Love the photo of you and the goggie. (Has your human contacted Ellen yet about you being the official model for the ED line of pet clothes? Hmmmm?)
That sure sounds like fun Summer. That sure was a big dog right next to you. Glad he was nice to you.
That’s pretty pawsome! We agree….there should be a Feline badge too!!!
The Florida Furkids
Amazing, Summer! And yes, we need a feline badge too 🙂
I’ll bet you made a lot of people really happy, Summer. There should be more therapy cats, shouldn’t there? I think a lot of people just don’t think cats would be good at that, but you’re showing them!
That is great that you got to go to College. You shine where every you go Summer 🙂
Oh Summer you are now the CAMPUS QUEEN!!!! You look so brave next to BIG Beau!
Love, Angel Sam and Teddy
It sounds like a lot of fun, Summer, and we agree with you about the need for a Feline Good Citizen badge!
Purrs,
