Usually my human is busy acquiring more holiday decor around this time of year. (Or, as she calls it, “Christmas junk.”) The more ridiculous it is, the better. But this year, she is giving some of her treasured items away to a couple she knows. The husband is very, very ill, and he loves the holidays. The wife is more of a Halloween person, so they didn’t really have anything for Christmas. So she asked her network of friends if they had anything they could pass along this year.
My human has the same warped sense of humor as they do, so she knew she had a few things they would most likely enjoy. And my human wanted to give them things that meant something at the same time, so we are parting with some things that my human has really treasured over the years. She thought you would enjoy hearing about them too.
Don’t worry, we are keeping the basket! My human says we are “not done with it yet.”
My human loves this Christmas frog so much, she leaves it up year round. She found it at Ross a long time ago and knew she had to have it. This is the item she will probably miss the most.
My human has had this ancient, slightly tacky tiny snowglobe for literally a few decades. It’s one of the first holiday ornaments she ever got. But in the last couple of years, she found out that the liquid inside of snowglobes is lethal to cats. So if this ever broke, it would harm me if I accidentally licked any of it. Since this couple doesn’t have any cats, it will be safe for them.
My human knows her friends will really appreciate this folk art bat ornament. She got it a couple of decades ago from Bat Conservation International, an organization that works to protect bat populations. This ornament always had a featured place on the tree every year.
My human actually never found a good way to display this creepy Santa head that she got from a local bookstore. But she has been hanging onto it, knowing that she would find a place for it eventually. She just didn’t know that place would be somewhere else. She really is fond of it, though, for reasons I’ll never fathom.
And lastly, here’s this Believe ornament from CVS. My human got it just last year, so it’s only been up once, but she knows her friends will appreciate it.
Part of this year’s Thanksgiving will be making sure that these holiday items get to this couple. My human will miss them, but she thinks the best gifts are when you are giving someone a part of yourself. I hope you have the opportunity to do the same this season.
