The other day, Binga was watching the Bird TV on our patio area and she started freaking out like she saw some sort of rock star! And maybe it was, because my human’s boyfriend said it “looked like it had a mohawk.” Fortunately my human had her camera handy so she could take a photo. But she had to zoom in like crazy — I think the lens was sticking all the way out! Plus she had to shoot through glass that was dirty. But she caught him on pixels!
In all our years of Bird TV watching, we had never seen this one! Usually it’s just sparrows and bluebirds and mourning doves. Oh, and that dumb hawk that one time.
It hung around for quite a while. It seemed to enjoy making Binga go crazy.
Finally it got sick of the paparazzi and flew away. My human is as much of a luddite when it comes to ID-ing birds as she is about pop culture. So can one of you tell us what kind of birdie this is? And which celebrity it looks the most like?
oooh Binga! Junko Stew sounds delish!
We have lots of Junco birds here but they do not bother me. It’s those chickens that bother me
It’s a Black Phoebe.
We have them in our yard but we call the “crazy birds”. They fly around the yard catching bugs in mid-flight. They’re crazy fun to watch.
I did a bit of research, and it definitely looks to be a black phoebe.
That’s a hunch!
My Grandma Pudgy Cat says it looks like a Lunch Bird to her..guess we shouldn’t say that..we will upset the bird people who don’t want us to act like cats..sigh..
I love the Binga posts! In fact I think I fall in the Binga Groupie category!
wow! we have never seen those kinds of birds in our backyard.
I have never seen a bird like that. Think I would got crazy too.

I believe efurrybuddy is right. So I will not make mommy get out the birdie book.
What’s the chances of that bird falling and landing right on the barbeque grill? heh heh. Binga’s face is priceless.
That’s not a bird I have seen, but it looks very tasty!! love Austin 🙂
No idea what kind of bird it is as I’ve never seen one of these before but celebrity-lookie-likey I’d go with Chrissie Hynds of the Pretenders or Claudia Winkleman. Binga’s little face is a picture.
Do you know if that kind of bird is yummy ?
I think it’s a Fluffy Binga Tease! We have Teases here but mostly the Russell Tease, commonly called a white wing dove.
I agree that it’s a Black Phoebe. Junco’s have pink bills. Phoebe’s eat insects and like shady areas near water such as streams, ponds, and lake banks. Their range runs from northern California south andeast to southern Texas. Our Person consulted “National Audubon Society field Guide to North American Birds”. It has beautiful full-color photos of the birds. Great picture of Binga! Signed, Bandit, Selleck, and Thbeir person, Emily.
I have no idea what kind of bird that that is but it looks like Don King 🙂
It’s a feathered treat! Although if we eat them we can’t watch them. We don’t know what it is, but ‘he’s’ cool looking. Our human only knows robins, blujays, and we have a local owl and hawk. Pretty cool!
Great photo of Binga! That’s a very pretty birdie! We have Juncos here and they don’t look like that so we don’t think that’s what it is but we don’t know what else it could be. Good job of Binga letting your human know it was there!
Its a black phoebe! The “crisp white belly” is the key. http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Black_Phoebe/id
Gorgeous photo, beautiful Binga and great eye catching that pretty bird in your sights, sweetie!…Our Mommy had a beloved parakeet for many years, but isn’t up on bird watching either=silly humans!…Have a fun weekend, precious friends…kisses…Calle, Halle, Sukki
We concur with the Phoebe! We don’t have them around here, but we have tons of Juncos and they are lighter grey and no tuft.
There’s an app for birds… Don’t tell the Tabbies O’ Trout Towne!
no idea what type of bird, but from his expression he kinda makes mom think of Elvis
makes us think about lunch…..
Neat bird! Love that photo of Binga
It’s a pretty bird and a great photo of Binga!
I don’t think that’s a Junco. Juncos are related to finches and buntings (family Emberizidae) and they are seed-eating birds with a distinctively finch-like bill. This guy’s beak is more pointy, like a wren or a flycatcher…
Okay, I’ve gone through my bird app…it’s a Black Phoebe (http://identify.whatbird.com/img/4/49415/image.aspx or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Phoebe) – a type of flycatcher, I was right! That little tuft on his head and the beak are the giveaways.
I think it is a Binga birdie, must be!
Well, birdie, you have the whole internet in the blog world just a drooling over you. You do look very tasty but in Mom’s eye, you are much too cute to have for dinner. I don’t think we have those kind around here. Good look Binga. You showed that Mom where the bird was.
Mom checked her “Eastern Backyard Birds” guide and agrees with those who said Junco. The guide identifies it as a Dark-eyed Junco. We adore that photo of Binga looking up at the camera. have a great weekend. Her green eyes are mesmerizing. Yeah, it looks like a Junco…but we’d like to call it Dinner! Haha!!
We vote Juncos too, although ours are usually on the patio floor so we never see their white on their tummy. I call it lunch! Yum!
What a handsome (and tasty, we imagine) bird! We hope you are able to identify it! Good capture, even through the window!
I have no idea what kind of birdie..but looks like you’ve already got answer! He sure is gorgeous. I love the fluffy brown coat and cute white tummy 🙂
Slate Colored Junco. Common over 90% of the US. We have on record, from a reliable, anonymous source, that they are indeed very yummy.
Jasmine, Joey, Eddie & Rosie
It may be a junco but it looks like a tasty snack to us! Have a good weekend!
Well, we are not sure. We had Mom check her birdy book.
We think it may be a Junco.
We love Binga’s captivated look 😉

He looks SO yummy… Rumblemum says he’s super cute but I don’t see it.
We’ve never seen a birdie like that but we’d love one to come and visit us.
