I was spayed last week, and I’ve decided to have a party to celebrate! But first let me tell you about my day.
I should have known something was up when my human took me to the vet in an old carrier instead of my pretty pink one. But I was oblivious. I just thought I was going somewhere fun. And it was mostly, for a while. Then they stuck this paper collar on me.
They gave me a number and took away my name!
Plus the thing was itchy. I decided to explore while my human and the vet were talking. I actually wasn’t supposed to be spayed this soon but according to my human, I have been displaying some behavior that indicated I was about to get hot or something like that. I don’t get it — it’s already hot here in southern California and besides, we have air conditioning. Anyhow I was rolling on the floor and looking cute and flirty and my human said, “I think we’re getting to her just in time.” Then she left me there and I was the star of the vet clinic! They put me in a cage for a while and everyone talked to me and admired me. It was almost like being at a cat show until they knocked me out. Then I woke up with a cone on my head.
My human felt really bad about the cone, but I’m the kind of kitty who chews on her stomach, so I had to wear something. So she went to the pet store that night and came home with a more fashionable alternative.
It does make it hard to clean up after eating, though! My human says it was kind of pricey for a one-time use, but she’ll donate it to a rescue now that I’m done with it. So this means I’m taking off doing any shows for about a month while my fur grows back. But it is a lot better than the alternative. My human and my breeder both agreed that being a mom would not be good for my career as a therapy cat in training — I’d have to take a lot of time off to care for a family. And I was developing at an early age and too young to be a mom anyhow.
So I think it was a good idea to trust my human with this decision!
Now here’s the fun party part! Instead of today being Labor Day, how about us girls have a Spay Day instead! Do you have a photo of yourself after you were spayed? If you are on Facebook, post a photo of your shaved belly on my Facebook page and I’ll share it! If you are on Twitter, post your photo there and tag me, @sparklecat (I’m posting from Sparkle’s old Twitter name). I’ll retweet! Not on either? You can send me a photo at summer AT sparklecat.com by the end of today and I will share it here!
What about you boycats? Well, you can cheer us girls on and congratulate us for our wise decision! I hope you are neutered too — it’s the only way to be!
Happy Spay Day. That sure is a classy replacement for the cone! We were all spayed or neutered when we came to live here so we don’t have pics.
The Florida Furkids
ConCats Summer!!! You are BEAUTIFUL!
It wasn’t so bad for me, but I am glad I got to skip the pink donut.
~Coral
Happy Spay Day! I, like many of your other readers, was spayed before my human picked me out at the rescue so no pictures. I had kittens as a stray before I was spayed and what an ordeal that was! I was lucky that my kittens and I were rescued and spayed before that happened again!!!
At a quick glance, I thought this was SPA day.
Yeah….that is very different. :O Hahaha!
I don’t think you want to see my scars from my spaying, Summer. 😉
Yay for the Spay Day Pawty ! Mum just gets my appointment for next week, September, 10th ! May I already pawty with you even if I’m only a very soon future spayed girl ? I hope you don’t feel pain ! Purrs, Pixie
Summer being spayed hasn’t done anything to your dazzling good looks, baby 🙂 With regard to pictures of me after I lost my googlies, there are, thankfully, none in circulation!!
Yeah Spay Day!!! You look like you’re relaxing and feeling no pain – Yay!!
A big yes to spay/neuter and now let’s celebrate Labor Day by nothing :-0
We’re glad all went well with your spay! We don’t have any photos of our shaved bellies since that happened before we came to our forever home. Is that last photo of you on your human’s lap? How’d you get her to quit fidgeting?
Sparkle would be so proud of you Summer. You are setting an example for kitties everywhere. Your pink cone is cute, it looks like a life preserver for a boat. Hope you are feeling back to normal soon. I wonder if Grumpy cat is spayed? I have never been able to find that information out.
Most of us were spayed back before our servant even had a digital camera!!! and she didn’t take apres-spay pix of us. But we applaud your bravery AND your advocacy, as we know spaying should be just about universal (except, of course, for the guys, who should be neutered, and a small population of cats to keep the species going!), and we think you look AMAZING in that pink collar 😉
Mom says that she might have a photo of Lily Olivia with her shaved belly, but wouldn’t know where to find it. She says that her brain is a fog today, and she doesn’t know if she has one of any of the rest of us. Summer, you look so adorable with the food on your nose and also laid out on your back napping. Glad the experience was not too traumatic. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Summer you are quite the fashionista with that lovely pink collar. Oh dear me it has be a very long time since I was spayed….so I have no pictures….but what a fun idea to have a par-tee. Your human was very wise to move your surgery date.
Lots of hugs madi your bfff
Your Human is so smart! That pink blow-up dealio is sooooooo much better than the Cone of Shame. I mean, with your little pink one, you could EAT. I think those cones are meant to STARVE us. Um, I left a picture on fb–I hope you will keep an open mind!
Summer..you looks like you has a big pink donut around yous neck..mol..Mama says we don’t has a picture ofs my naked tummy..
Oh yeah..”I was about to get hot or something like that”….HAHAHAHAHA..that is pretty funnies..
Congratulations on you spay! You’ll never have to worry about Labor Day 😉
Well WeBees boycats, so we well cheer you on!
WeBees Neutered too…and so were the angels in our furmily, but no spayday pics of Suki the only galkitty in our lineup.
That pink collar does look kind of spiffy, just say’n…..
Happy Labor Day…um Spay Pawrty Day!
While I am a mancat who was neutered 14 long years ago, I can remember that I felt a lot better after my “procedure” and I’m glad we did it. There are way too many homeless kittens in shelters and spaying/neutering helps with that BIG problem! Congratulations on being so very brave Summer – and I quite like your pink collar – it’s like carring a pillow with you everywhere you go!
Hugs of support for all girlie kitties!
Sammy the Mancat
we’re glad you had a safe and successful spay day, Summer! Minnie and Smidgie were kind of small when they had their surgeries, but our mom had noticed behavior similar to yours. Her worst fear with us was that we would escape the house and get knocked up, mol. she couldn’t bear the thought of us kittens having kittens. we’re kind of glad too your career will be away from being a mom-cat 🙂 We like your pink life preserver – very fashionable! Happy no labor spay day!
Pip, Smidgen, Minnie, Hollie
Happy to hear all went well with your spay day and that you are now home recuperating and being spoiled while your beautiful furs grow back. Going to go find a picture of Laila’s shaved belly now.
Woohoo Summer enjoy your Spa Day!xx Speedy
Poor Summer – but at least you will have it over with sweetie. No, you don’t want to be a mommy at your young age. Kittens are a ton of work and you’d never have time to be a show cat until the kittens left home. That pink donut is pretty cool actually.
Isn’t all fashion supposed to be one time use? And you look so cute in your big old collar!
Truffles had already been spayed before she was turned into rescue. Glad all went well for you and we’re supporting you in spirit!
Well, just cuz you got hot, doesn’t mean motherhood. You gotta meet up with a nice mancat to do that!
Why Summer I’ve never seen someone look as pretty as you after a Spay Day!
Both Angel brandi and I were spayed before Mommy “rescued” us. But I understand she did have two kitties she had to take to the vet….
That pink collar is Maahhhvelous, Darlink!
What a clever girl you are, Summer! Turning something iffy into something FUN!
I don’t have any shaved tummy pics from when I was spayed but I do have some from when my tummy was shaved for my caesarian….
Purrs,
Tama-Chan
Glad everything went well with your spay and you got a fashionable alternative to the dreaded cone! We agree the paper collars at the vet’s are VERY itchy. Tabby actually scratched hers completely off once, mol! We’ll have to post our spay pics (for us girls), and everyone’s cheering you on! Happy No-Labor Day!
Concats Summer! 6 months isn’t too early at all (or was it 5 months?) I was neutered at 6 mos. Your human is smart! Love, Cody
Hey Summer. . . glad to hear all went well with your surgery. . . I have 12 kitties — all adopted or rescued — 7 girls — 5 boys. They are all spayed/neutered — and we wouldn’t have it any other way!! Unfortunately, I don’t have any pics of my girls ‘ surgical scars, but I do have one of my youngest boy, Vegeta (who is a polydactyl with 24 toes) with him on my bed cuddling with his blankie right after I brought him home from his ‘boy’ surgery. I will post if to your facebook page as I don’t have a page for any of my kitties. Loved the fashionable collar your Mommy got for you — and very happy to know that it will get great future use as a donation to a rescue organization!! Pawsome!! love and prayers for continued success!! lubs ya!! ♥♥♥♥♥
Diane Ricciardi Stewart and Vegeta and the Ricciardi Clan!! ♥♥♥
Happy spay day.
That’s a fun idea! We looked, and the only photos we have from around that time are of Ashton’s frankeinstein post-surgery eye, not her tummy, which isn’t the same thing. (And might gross some people out, too.) But we think that spayed tummies are pawesome, and we hope you get lots of them participating!
What a fantastic idea -Spay Day! It prevents labour later on. Hehehehe. I don’t think Äiti will be able to find the photo of Aila’s spay but we’ll have a look. ANd all us boys are done – except Sampo who is a ‘stud’. Recently Seppo lost his jewels and they have become shriveled little sultanas which you might be able to see in some photos, as everything is so public for him. Our little Mesi is going to be spayed sometime soon – she is ‘on the pill’ at the moment. We totally agree with responsible pet ownership and neutering.
You have coped very well with such a big event, Summer, and we know you will have been leaping around all over the place trying to get rid of that doughnut collar.
Concatulations on your spay day. I was spayed before Mom would even bring me home from the vet where she adopted me, because Toby was already in the house and he wasn’t quite old enough for his snipping. But I was just at that right age and she didn’t want anything to happen.
We just have boys here so we’ll have to be in the cheering section. I think there should be bumper stickers saying, “neutered — it’s the only way to be!” but some of the peeps might misunderstand.
xxoo
All of us were “done” before we came to live here so no photos of us. We are sure happy to hear that all went well for you pretty Summer!
We are glad your spay went well Summer. That pink collar looks very nice too 😉
We were all spayed and neutered when we met Mom except for Julie.
We are sure we have some pictures 😉
Have a good snooze Summer !
Purrs Georgia and Julie,
Treasure and JJ
Miss Frankie had hers at the shelter before we met so no photos. I think that new collar is way better than a cone – I bet it’s way more comfortable too!
You girls have a great time today! All of us here are neutered too, Mom says that is the responsible thing to do. We trust Mom 🙂 Anyhoo have a great spa day!
Marty
Summer, we’re glad all went well with your spay. We don’t have any pics of Zoey’s shaved belly when she was spayed but we’re all celebrating with you today!
What a good idea! I mean the party…and well, the spaying is a good idea too. I don’t know if Mum has a photo of me with my belly shaved, I’ll have to look through the archives. But you’re very smart to trust your human, she loves you and only wants the best for you and your career. So…let’s get this party going!
We’re glad everything went well fur you!!! Happy Labor Day!!!
Summer, that pink “cone” is pretty neat-looking and you certainly don’t seem bothered by it. We’re glad it’s all over and done with though, glad the spay went well.
Our human doesn’t have any pics of angel Annie when she spayed…twice. (Yeah, they missed bits the first time and she got “hot” again, had to be taken back in. Oy!)
As for us, we were neutered by the shelter before adoption, a good thing!
We were wondering if maybe you were going to have families but it would be a hitch in your therapy work. Spaying and neutering is so so important. We have to see if we can find any pictures of us after the spaying deal. Love that last picture Summer. Happy Monday to all of you.
It’s a great idea, I’ve never looked back. FAZ
Well since I´m a boy I´m here to celebrate/cheer you up and congratulate you for your wise decision !
YES I´m neutered and I can tell you I didn´t get a fancy pink collar around my neck !
I just got the old fashion cone of shame 🙁
XOXO
We haven’t got a spay picture to show you as we were rescued by the RSPCA and they did the deed before we were offered for adoption. We’ve never seen a collar like yours before but you look quite cute wearing it.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Yeah! You go girl! Getting spayed is the thing to do! Mum doesn’t have one of me (it happened at the rescue), BUT I think the pink collar is just so 2015 fashion forward! Super cool, and you get an holiday while your hair grows * high paw *
Peanut had a real peach of a scar but that was 16 years ago (mum says) and no pic re ains or we would share. This is a spay and neuter household!!!!
