Shabby Chic at Our House

April 11, 2011 By: Sparkle Cat35 Comments

Shabby Chic Day

Today has been designated Shabby Chic day by Milo and Alfie, and I have to tell you, it has not been easy to accomplish here! As you might recall, just when we thought we had everything perfect, housekeepers showed up to ruin it all! And we had worked so hard, especially Boodie. You might recall a version of the photo below from my FURminator post a few days ago… except my human Photoshopped Boodie’s fur out! This is the real, unretouched photo:

It took DAYS of shedding to get this effect!

And now look at the rug. Shameful!

Boodie wants the maids to give her her fur back.

Boodie has been working very hard to get it back to where it was, but there just hasn’t been enough time to make it right again.

How can you recreate a work of art?

Fortunately not much can be done about the corner she has torn into a tassle. She is considering doing this with the other three corners too, for symmetry’s sake.

I think she is still bummed about the de-furred rug.

Binga has been slacking off a bit, thinking that she can rest on her laurels after adding a good amount of shabbiness to the dining room chairs. She should know that Shabby Chic is an ongoing process, and one is never finished decorating.

Cleaning the wool from her claws.

One item we have been able to work on undisturbed is the cat tree. We have had it for many years, and we are proud of what it has become.

This did not happen overnight!

I add some more Shabby Chic-ness to it every day.

My pre-meal scratch!

And my human, being smart, has never once suggested doing something dumb, like throwing it out. She knows that all its marks mean we love it!

These are love shreds.

In fact, my human has even done some of her own Shabby Chic work — look!

I was impressed by this!

We cats did not have anything to do with these worn areas. My human created them by dancing for hours to cardio exercise DVDs! She had made the rug far shabbier than we have!

Wish I’d heard of this sooner, it appears that most of our household items would fit. Thank-you Taco, Bella, Mango and Sumari.

Wow, Binga–Props on that chair redecorating! Great job!

P.S. We are relieved you thought the cartoon was funny, cause, you know, we didn’t want you to think we were TOO sick and twisted, MOL (even though we sort of are).

Great job kitties!! We especially like the chair. We have a chair too..that we like to put our claws into when we feel like decorating.

The cat tree is awsome!! We can tell that was well thought out before you started decorating. Come by and visit and you can see our tree.

You girls all do great work – even your human! Our human would never wear out a rug – she’d have to get off of her fat arse to do that, so we don’t see that happening.

The rug just made me cry. I know how much work that is. Ours is red and very similar. Of course it cost quite a lot of money so we also scratch it a bit too which drives the male nuts… I love it!

You guys are really good at decorating!! Like you, we are good decorators too, but it never fails, once we get things looking pretty shabby chic, the humans come in and either ruin what we have done or take it away totally. We sure don’t understand why the humans don’t appreciate all our hard efforts!!

Fantastic job of redecorating pals. If you hire out, m said she’d hire you to come over here and help me. It’s a tough job for one kitty to do all the decorating alone.

You ae all so good with the shabby chic look but we must say Binga wins our vote for the most artistic shredding of the chair – the placing of the threads has us in awe of her talent.

My dad’s cats did a great job at this–tore up couches, chairs, rugs, and of course, their scratching post too! Fortunately for me, my cats had their front paws declawed or my furniture would be all shabby too.

We especially love the chair too! Excellent shabby chic decorating! And gees, our mom forgot about the cat tree downstairs, which definitely qualifies for shabby. 😀

P.S. The mom says thank you for the b-day wishes, she had a lovely day!

You have some unique features in your home, Sparkle. Having a team of three (four?) decorators clearly is a big help. You human has an unwinnable challenge with the black field in that area rug, doesn’t she? My humans’ instead chose a rug with a cream colored background in the center. They live in fear of me vomiting on it, or somebody spilling red wine on it, so they close off the whole room!! Nuts.

Great shabby chic, guys. We wish we had claws so we could do some fabric and rug work, but long ago bad mom #1 took them away. Our mom has been doing those cardio exercise DVD’s too, and we just get so sleepy watching.
