My friend Romeo has a seemingly unlimited number of wake up tactics to get his human out of bed. I don’t. I have just one and it works fine for me, so I haven’t tried to improve upon it. First, as you can see above, I lay down on my human. She is only allowed to get up when I give the word.
Then, when I decide she has had enough time in bed, I turn around and give her the stare down. That means she has to get up.
I know it sounds like a very simple ritual, but it works on her!
The stare down works quite well in our household. Chewing on a knee or an exposed toe is also regularly employed.
That stare would get anyone out of bed!
Such beautiful green eyes! I guess eyes like that demand attention…and treats. Not something you could just ignore and go back to bed. 🙂
I think you underestimate your power Sparkle 🙂
Our mom usually beats us out of the bed in the morning.
Whew! I’m glad my kitties don’t read your blog, Sparkle!! I don’t want them to get any ideas!! My two are great at sleeping in. 🙂
Sounds like a perfect system, Sparkle!
P.S. Some of your comments on other blogs have made us laugh a lot today–especially the one about the Fourth of July!
and really, why would you mess with a perfect system? but it is never a bad idea to have a few more tricks in your bag just in case
We find the stare-down pretty effective too, but sometimes we have to take it to the next level with claw pricks on the tip of her nose. That always wakes her up.
You’ve mastered that stare down! We didn’t realize we’re supposed to wait until it’s light out to wake up our mommy.
Sparkle
You are a very good drill Sgt!

What a nice way to wake up!
Tabby Brofur sit outside bedroom window and sing to Bean to wake her up. And because he in rock band, he sing VERY LOUD. So she always get up right away to feed him lest he wake up the whole neighborhood. I just do happy feet on her when I want her to wake up. If she ignore that I bounce up and down on her bladder. That always work.
I think you are both very wise!
No need to mess with what works! And what a sweet face to wake up to!
You know, I kind of like it when my Human’s in bed (where she has been more than usual the past 4 days, moaning and groaning about some little rock). As long as she’s unconscious there’s no flashy box or grabby hands (I do require food eventually of course, but so far she’s kept up real well with that except for one night in 2010 which I will nefur let her forget. I almost STARVED, you know.)
The stare down doesn’t work for me….I have found, however, the “tail drag across the face” maneuver to be very effective in getting my Mom awake and alert and on her way to the kitchen to get my breakfast! She says it tickles – I say IT WORKS!
Kitty Hugs, Sammy
I don’t have to worry. My husband feeds the boys in the morning…he has to do with the numerous “wake up calls” not me! 🙂
Sparkle, it must be nice to have such a simple human.
Thank you so much for your kind words about our sweet Chevelle.

Good technique but it doesn’t work on all humans. For example, it works on my human, but not her husband :-/

Sassy employs the stare down when she wants a treat. Usually within a few minutes, Mommie starts getting so guilty Sassy gets a treat.
WhenI I give TW that look in bed, it means I am ready to attack her. She cowers. I don’t have to resort to tricks in the morning altho I did pounce on her yesterday w/o claws for the first time.
You know, I like this idea!I think I will try to do the same here ! 🙂
You are so cute and very smart!

That stare is VERY direct, Sparkle! But I think me lying on her (like ‘Ticia does, and Peppers) would just make her sleepy, like it does when they do it. MOL
Selina
PS – Now LIVIA can get her up! She’s very annoying, keeps headbonking her and meows pitifully. 🙂
Have you been teaching Lishy your tactics? That is exactly what he does! If the staredown isn’t working, he does the bladder dive.
Wow, you are so nice to your human in the morning! Melly yanks my hair, bops my head with her paw, walks around on me, meows in my face with her fishybreath…
we just slap the mom in the face. MOL
We have to stick to whatever works!
We bet that look you give her gets her right out of bed!
Simple is good!
Fan’cat’stic Tactics Sparkle! I usually put my paw on my hoomans face to wake her up, if that does’nt work, I bat her! MOL
Wishing mew a super purry day

Excellent wake up tactic!! If it works, why change it?
The Florida Furkids and Lexi
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it right Sparkle? Your technique is simple but effective 🙂
Sparkle we think that stare would get out Mum up too – we have to do walking on and pouncing on to get any reaction here so we must practice a “get up stare” and try it out.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
MOL, Our Mom would get up too with that Sparkle stare.I bet that does work well. Have a great day all of you.
Sounds like you are a very good alarm clock. My cats only come on me when it’s cold. Summer I get to move as I please.
Who would not want to get up when faced with such an enchanting sight?
Purrs,
The Chans
That stare down is pretty hard to ignore, I am sure!
