Pruning My Catnip Garden

May 26, 2021 By: Summer Samba22 Comments

Summer's catnip garden needs some pruning! So of course she has to come outside and help her human with that.

It’s time to check up on my catnip garden! It’s spring, so it can grow really fast.

And… wow! It has grown a lot since we last saw it. It’s not even budding yet. I’d say it’s time for some pruning. It’s in desperate need of being cut back.

As you can see, I am very much involved in the pruning process.

The catnip branches were still soft, not at all woody, so my human was able to pinch off a bunch just with her fingers and fingernails. It didn’t take long for her to have a whole bouquet of catnip branches.

I’m quite pleased with the amount of catnip my human pruned from the plants. And now comes the most important part of my job.

Quality control!

Did I mention that quality control is also my most favorite part?

I think I can safely give this catnip my highest rating.

My human pruned off a great crop of early catnip, so I gave her a high five.

Our mom is wondering if she should try growing catnip indoors. She doesn’t have much of a green thumb, though.

Lookit those big leaves! Whoa! I can smell them from here! Sooooooo what does your human use all that nip for? Does she use it in your refillable toys or to marinate some old toys? Maybe she makes tea for herself. TW used to eat my nip leaves when she had migraines. Now she has magic cookies. Heh.

Your nip looks a lot nicer than ours…its been so dry here, the nip plants are showing their dryness…some wilt before they get drenched from the watering cans.

Such fun Summer. Wish my girls liked fresh nip more. They prefer the cured stuff and Silvervine

We have package of catnip seeds in the garage, so I think we’re going to have our mom take it out and plant. How is everyone?

We are so jealous! The quail got into the catnip pot and ate the seeds and little plants. We have to use a smaller wire on the pot that the quail can’t get through.

Wow, that’s great! Our mom dries catnip in our garage, then uses it to make catnip toys for the local shelter. of course, we test each batch first!

I was expecting to see you roll on that fresh nip.
It is very healthy looking. Your crop looks even
    stronger than last year.
