If you’ve visited my blog for any length of time, you probably know that my human loves to take shadowy photos of me. But instead of using a newer photo for this week’s Photo Hunt theme, I thought I would go back to February, 2003 to my very first shadowy photo session. Our old house had a railing on the second floor, and my human trained Binga and me to walk it like a balance beam. That was one of Binga’s favorite pastimes because she loved getting rewarded with treats! I was, and still am not, treat motivated, so I questioned both Binga and my human’s sanity for coming up with this trick in the first place. So you can imagine what I was thinking that late afternoon while sitting on the railing. My human liked the photo so much that she put it on a notecard in my CafePress store. I think she should switch it out — there are many better photos of me now!
If you would like to see a movie of me actually walking the railing, here is a clip. The quality isn’t very good because it was shot with an ancient digital camera. My human never got around to putting music to it, which is too bad — I bet she could have found something cool!
Love the tail action in the video!
Love that collar! Oh, oh I am supposed to be appreciating the artistry? Please excuse me, I am only an ex-street kitty and haven’t learned the finer things in life.
I give you a “10” for tehnical ability and a definite “10” for artistic ability!!!
Sparkle, that’s a very beautiful photo of you and we enjoyed the video too but it gave our mommy a panic attack. She gets very nervous when kitties walk across something where they could fall a long way down. She has to go calm down now…
MOL! It really wasn’t far enough down to hurt any of us — just half a floor, or one flight of steps &mdash, and I believe it was carpeted at the time too (my human eventually ripped out the carpeting and refinished the hardwood floor before we moved). So it wasn’t a precipitous drop in the least! BTW, I don’t think either me or Binga ever fell, although we did jump down (on the short side of course!) when we got bored of playing.
You really rock the catwalk with that cool collar, Sparkle. Did that big flower on the side bother you after a while?
Such a beautiful kitty!
Sparkle
I did love the rose collar that you had on, you always look beautiful but even more so in this!

Sparkle, I don’t think I could ever sit on a railing like that. I think I am, what’s the word–a little too rotund??
Hugs,
Tom

Boodie is the same way. You need a certain build to be able to do it. Boodie has what is called a “cobby” body (yes, that’s a real term), and she is naturally built too wide to walk on such a narrow railing. Binga and I are semi-foreign and foreign respectively, so we can do it. The majority of fluffy cats are cobby (I think Turkish angoras are the exception).
Great tight rope walk and so very talented. You have a great fluffy tail and I admire that. Keep up the talent and don’t stop posing for all those great photos.
That is a great shadow picture Sparkles! I am not too good at staying on our railing, you did great!
My doggy isn’t treat motivated either! that’s a great shot of your shadow 🙂
Wow, Miss Sparkle, you’re an acrobat! You should talk to Daisy about joining her circus!
Lovely in so many ways. Our Mom loves shadows, too. Sometimes I like the pictures she takes, but sometimes they make us look so fat or too thin or all weird…I don’t like those ones, but she likes them best!! Humans are silly creatures!! Purrs, Lautrec, Tiny and Ellwood
A very sexy cat!
You have a great cat walk that shows you off in shadow!
Sparkle, you are gorgeous in any lighting. No need to walk a cat walk.
Great SHADOW picture Sparkle!! We love how you look in it!! And the video was cool, too!!
Your TX furiends,
That was a good walk, it looks high!
We like your shadow photo.
Happy Saturday to you,
~ Malachi and Noah
Hi Sparkle, my furbaby Emma loves to sit on the railings too.
Good shadow photo Sparkle! Very nice.
You walked the rail very nicely Sparkle.
Good job walking the balance beam, Sparkle!! You are quite the gymnist!
You always look so sophisticated!

We hope you got well paid for that death defying walk Sparkle (and danger money).
Looks cute dear. happy hunting.
Looking very elegant this week, Sparkle.
Well, it is very nice of you to be so accommodating and walk the rail for her even if you aren’t treat motivated. You are a very beautiful model, and the rose sets you off nicely.
And the shadow shot is beautiful, too.

Sparkle, I cannot believe you let the Mom put that collar on you. You sure are pretty in that picture. You look much younger but then I guess you were much younger in the video. Great pictures. Hope you have a good week end.
What a dainty girl you are 🙂
`You are such a handsome devil!
I love your photo and video, Sparkle 🙂
You look poised and compose, unlike my Joe who’s a rascal most of the times.
Sparkle, that is a cool photo and video. Even if you did not like to do that trick, it is a good one.
Sadly, I am too tubby and clumsy for any sort of walking on any sort of railing.
Love the tail. Great shot.
Walking the railing ! That’s so cool
and you look so pretty with that rose.
But in some way…The way you walk look like you train for Miss Meawniverse pageant : )
