Late Spring Nip Garden Report

June 6, 2017 By: Summer Samba43 Comments

somali cat looking over overgrown catnip garden

What you didn’t fully see in this Sunday’s selfies is just how humongous my catnip garden has gotten! It is out of control.

somali cat wondering what is going to happen to her catnip garden

It’s a jungle in there! My human says it is time to cut it back, and I think she is right.

somali cat sitting next to pile of fresh catnip

In, like, five minutes, my human was able to cut this much catnip out of the garden!

And look at how much is still left! My human says that she should cut it back some more because underneath all the green it’s very leggy.

somali cat sniffing freshly cut nip

There’s nothing better than the aroma of freshly cut catnip. Okay, maybe it’s tied with freshly roasted chicken.

somali cat after giving her nip garden report

So that’s my nip garden report. I think I will just stay here for a while and take whiffs.

Summer, we love your catnip jungle and you’re so lucky to savor all that catnip scrumptiousness! Ours is not that high because we’re getting a kind of “wintery” summer and we don’t like it all at! It’s been raining non-stop and mom calls it an Irish summer. At least our catmint is blooming, but we’re not as enthusiastic about that as we are about the ‘nip! Happy catnip trips!

Maybe you can host a giveaway or get your human to make toys. I’m glad she cut the stuff that went to seed.

Gosh Summer that’s a MASSIVE amount of nip you’ve got there – you could sell it and make some bucks! I can hear you on the street now “hey buddy wanna buy some good stuff????”………tee hee……seriously, I think you will enjoy the fruits of your human’s trimming and there’s still LOTS left.

Oh, Sparkle, your so lucky to be outside with your nip. I can see mine from the window only. It has grown real tall. Do you think I should have Mom trim it back, too? The neighbor kitty rolls in my nip plants & sometimes breaks the stems, but she is a pretty lady so I don’t mind. When does your momma harvest the nip plants for grinding into dry nip? I’m not much for the fresh leaves, but love the dry stuff! You are mighty pretty sitting out in nature!

We dry them. The nip is actually pretty fragrant when first cut from the plant, but it diminishes after that.
