My Weird Covid Vet Visit

September 18, 2020 By: Summer Samba36 Comments

Summer has a weird Covid vet visit and therapy cat health evaluation.

My annual veterinary check up and therapy cat health evaluation was due last month. But my human has been dragging her feet on it because of the pandemic. She was concerned that without her there, I would not pass the handling part of the therapy cat evaluation. As if! In any case, my regular vet actually has a certified therapy cat, so when my human finally scheduled an appointment, she made sure to set it up with her. So a couple of days ago, we drove to the clinic and had to wait in the car for our appointment.

I would have just sat in my carrier and waited. I’m used to sitting and waiting from being in airports. But my human said I could do whatever I wanted until the vet tech came for me.

So I did! I went over to the back seat and looked out the window.

I even did some high fives and got treats.

Eventually they fetched me and did my check up and evaluation. And as you might have guessed, it all went well and I passed everything. My human didn’t need to worry at all. But I do have to say, it was a weird covid vet visit.

And the best part is, it was dinnertime when we got home!

Of course you did fine – you are used to just about EVERYTHING so waiting in the car and going to see the vet without your human was a piece of cake!

Because wes back in Midway, when Kozmo and Cinnamon went to the vet for shots (and ear mites) it was the way it has always been except everyone wore masks. There is only one vet at the office and she told Mom that she changed the scheduling so that the appointments are further apart so that there is only one group waiting while one is in the room. We knew that yous would ACE any exam!

I’m very proud of you Summer. But I’m not surprised. When I took my Princess in I insisted on staying with her. Shes very sensitive and gets very scared and she’s very emotionally attached to me. It was allowed. Shes healthy at 11 years old. She had her first senior blood panel and psssed

I am glad everything went well. Vets not allowing pet parents in right now is my biggest pet peeve. No one would ask a parent to send a child in without them and to me it is the same thing. I am glad my vet allows us in with masks.

glad things went well… it was really challenging bringing Diego-san in for multiple visits over the summer. he usually did pretty good about the wait as well…

You look so beautiful in those first two pictures particularly, Summer. My visits are like that but I don’t have training so they don’t go well.

your training is a definite advantage. I’m thinking of doing a mobile vet visit after my recent clinic visit. The restricted lines of communication left much to be desired.

Our vet visits here are nowhere near as weird as yours. No sitting in the car with the kitties going in alone. That was only the case during the confinement period we had. Now, the consultations are back to normal, except that everyone needs to wear a mask.

We’re glad it all went smoothly for you, Summer!

At least at our vet we are allowed inside, they just make sure only one pet human is in the lobby at any time.
Its a very small practice and maybe that is why.

Other vet offices in town are larger and they do it by similar ways like you experienced.

I am glad everything went well. I hate not being able to go in the room with my cats. That is usually when I remember to ask something else so now I feel I am not getting as good service as before. I have put off things because I want to be able to be there.

We put off our yearly vet visits because our wonderful regular vet moved away and we hoped to meet our new vet in person. Who knows when that will happen?
Yesterday Mickey Mouser met the new vet and I talked to her from the car.
    Weird. But OK.

You looked very pleased – just getting to go somewhere

wisely took treats! Seems like a nice change.

We knew you would pass! Mom agrees that it is a very weird way to do a vet visit. She couldn’t go in with Allie and that was really rough. She did get to go in for Allie’s final visit.

We are so glad to hear everything went well. Our mom is a LVT and she sees the stress from some pets having to come in without their pet parents. She always makes sure to give everyone love, patience, treats. Just so you know, mom really misses seeing and visiting with pet parents in person. We know your mom was missed too. Purrs

I knew you would do well, Summer. I find it weird , too, that I have to stay in the car. That must put increased stress on the pet when their human can’t be with them.

Actually, some vets are reporting that some pets are much calmer without their humans being present since they can sense the stress the human may be feeling.
