My Therapy Cat Evaluation

May 3, 2016 By: Summer Samba75 Comments

I bet you are all wondering how my therapy cat evaluation went!

I passed! This isn’t my real harness, though — when I go for my first visit, I’ll get my real harness with the name of the organization on it. I will be honest, I was a little nervous, but it turned out that I didn’t have to do anything I wasn’t used to. I was on my leash, and several people I didn’t know handled me and cuddled me. Then somebody brought out a big dog and walked him around the room. I barely noticed the dog — I certainly saw enough dogs at the cat show at the Phoenix Pet Expo! The only weird part was that when my human put me back in my carrier, a friend of hers took me home. She had to stay behind to learn some other stuff.

The organization is called Love On 4 Paws, and my human chose them because they had several places that they serviced that were near our part of town. The day of the orientation, they gave my human this camera and film because when we do visits, she’ll be taking photos of me with the patients and giving them the pictures. Isn’t that cool?

I can’t wait to get started! But my human has to do a couple of things first. She needs to get clearance with the hospital we will be visiting, and she’ll need a TB test. Once that is taken care of, I can go visiting!

I knew you’d do wonderfully well for your therapy cat test……you are so used to being around people you don’t know and having strangers pet you and talk to you……..even the bit about being around a dog – no problem for you! You’re a STAR! I know your human is proud of you but all of us are too – can’t wait to hear about your visits when you start them – way cool too that your human will take photos for the organization!

    Love, Sammy

Concatulations Summer on your certification and helping train your human to get hers! We are excited for you and know your visits will help many people feel better. Years ago when our human was hospitalized in the ICU for four months with pneumonia, Doctors struggled to find ways to improve her spirits which could improve her physical health. There were no therapy pet programs at the time in our town, but upon hearing from her parents how much she missed her cat at the time Duchess, our human’s Doctor agreed to allow them to sneak Duchess in for a visit. Our human says that visit brought about a turning point in her recovery both emotionally and physically that she feels saved her life. She knows first hand how the love and compassion that animals bring to a human’s life can brings forth a power like no other, and has no doubt you will help many humans the same way her now angel fur baby Duchess did for her so many years ago.

Congrats Summer I had no doubt you would do great as a therapy cat. By the way I’m writing a Doctor Who novel and I think you’re so cool I put a Somali cat in the story and she rides in the TARDIS with the Doctor and his friend Lily. I don’t know if it will get published, but if it does I’ll put a dedication to you in it!
