My Scafflaw Human

August 23, 2010 By: Sparkle Cat33 Comments

Scafflaw WeekMy pal Fin over at Housecat Confidential has dubbed this “Scafflaw Week,” during which we kitties can flaunt all the ways in which we have broken rules. Well, that’s a problem around here, since as far as I know, we cats have no rules to break! We pretty much do whatever we want. Sometimes the humans get a little, um, “loud” about it, but we ignore them. That said, there is definitely a big rule breaker around here, and that is — my human! And she committed one of the most serious infractions just this past weekend: she went off for the evening without feeding us! Granted, it was before our dinnertime when she left, but do you think any of us got something to hold us over? No!

As dinnertime drew near, I waited patiently in the dining room, thinking that maybe my human would return and feed us on time.

Maybe she just went to the pet store or something.

But it got later and later. The cans of food sat on the counter, mocking me.

I know they don't look like they were saying anything, but they WERE mocking me.

But time crawled by and we cats were getting hungrier and hungrier! I took a look at the clock and I was shocked at how late it had gotten! Hours and hours had passed!

It's after 10 and no dinner! This is cruel and incat-man punishment.

This is what my human was faced with when she finally came traipsing through the door. I had just about faded away to nothing! That was mean of her!

I'm not just saying Feed Me Now, I'm saying Feed Me Yesterday!

BTW, Fin, when I was working up this post, I noticed that dictionary.com had it spelled “scofflaw.” Are you just being creative and making up a new word that’s especially for us cats?

At the risk of being contrary…aren’t kitties descended from desert breeds…that can easily endure droughts, fasts, other trials and tribulations and survive with perfect form and aplomb? I think your human was just reminding you of your roots…I think mostly we humans spoil our modern kitties like crazy…but I have to admit, the expression in your last photo is priceless!!

In your case, I think it was your humans that committed the “scofflaw”. You were very patient waiting to be fed. It’s a cardinal rule to feed the kitties before you leave to go anywhere!

Oh Sparkle, I got all fainty from hunger just READING this story! How dare she leave without adequately providing for your needs! I think I might call the SPCA about that! If only you had thumbs…

Excellent job, and in the last picture you totally look like a kitty mom wouldn’t like to walk in on in a dark room. We hope you got fed, pronto!!!!We figure Fin’s creative spelling of scofflaw just goes along with all the other creative kitteh spelling you see in the blogosphere!

Uh oh. We have a electric timer feeder, but that only gives dry kibble. I know you are a fancy cat and probably eat home-cooked fancy meals, right? Bad Mommeh. Bad.

Oh, what a terrible situation, Sparkle. What is it with the humans and breaking our food schedule rule? THE most important Cat Rule (we think, anyway)? Hope you were able to score some extra treats or something out of it all.

We just can’t believe that your human did such a thing! What was she thinking? We’re glad you had enough strength to get down from that cat tree to eat when she FINALLY decided to come home and feed you. Sheesh!

I actually have dinner ON the cat tree – it’s rooftop dining! It also keeps the other, pig cats from eating my dinner.

We think this is just about the worst rule a human could break! Your mom should be ashamed of herself! We hope you let her know about it – VERY LOUDLY!

OMC, we can’t believe it! Seriously! How could your human disregard the food rule like that? We have to say, our human is paranoid that when she leaves the house something will happen and she won’t make it back, so she always leaves us plenty of food, so we don’t starve until we’re found and rescued. Which might be why she ends up throwing so much food away–we can’t eat it all!

Heh, my human figured that if she never came back, her boyfriend would come home later and we still would get fed. She thinks this makes it okay if dinner is just a “little bit” (HER words) late. AS IF!

When I first saw “scafflaw” I thought the same thing but looked it up – it is an alternative spelling…so Fin’s secretary is technically correct. Great photos …and yes, a major rule breaking on your human’s part –

We agree with Daisy. Mom should go to jail for pet neglect. That is just awful that she left you there starving. No excuse for that. She did commit a terrible scafflaw or scofflaw, which ever it is.
    Have a spectacular week.
