I had a fun visit at the children’s hospital this week. Right after we signed in, we headed for the lobby. My human saw a boy sitting on one of the sofas and asked if he’d like to see me. He said yes, then asked if I bit! My human laughed and said no. Then she had me do a bunch of tricks for him. I gave him a paw shake, and sat up for a treat.
We headed for the exam rooms, but on the way I decided to stop by the radiology manager’s office. Yes, it was totally my decision — my human would have walked right by. But she was delighted to see me! So of course I know what’s best.
A nurse was busy with the patient at the very first room we stopped at. She said to come back in a few minutes…which we did, but then a doctor was talking with the patient and family. My human and I stopped by three times and it was never a good time. This does happen every so often, and it’s a bummer because I always want to visit.
I did visit with a couple of older kids. One girl sat on the exam bench with a walker in front of her. She moved the walker out of the way so I could sit next to her and hang out and pose for a photo. The other kid got a full family photo with both parents, and that was really awesome!
Then I went from the older kids to a couple of toddlers. Most cats are wary of toddlers, but I like them. The first boy had just gotten a cast off and he was a little distracted and in pain. But he still got to pet me. The second boy was all over the place, as toddlers often are! But he enjoyed me when he wasn’t dashing around. He was very curious about me, and everything else.
It was almost time to leave, but we took a quick trip up to the Surgery Center and visited the nurses and one young lady who was getting surgery that day.
I had a very busy visit, and then when we got in the elevator to the parking lot, a family joined us, and the girl said to my human, “Oh, you’re the lady with the cat!” Yes, it was the patient I hadn’t gotten to see earlier. So she got to pet me after all. It was the perfect end to the day’s visit.

I love that you go to see and visit with the young lady who had been otherwise occupied earlier.
You are such a wonderful bright spot in the lives of those you visit. Thanks for all you do!
What a lovely visit Summer. You made so many people happy. You’re a special girl to be able to be a therapy kitty.
What purrfect timing at the end of your visit! It was meant to be.
Glad you got to spread so much joy.
Another good patient visit. I always enjoy reading about these
and I picture what you are talking about. It was nice you included
the Radiology Manager. Even bosses need some attention.
I think your visits to the kids are the best, Summer.
Summer, wish you were visiting the office where The Hubby is going to today; he’s awfully nervous, and could use a paw to guide him.
It was nice that the girl was able to see you on the way out.
We’re glad that girl got to see you after all, Summer!
