I had a busy day at the big hospital. Fortunately the other therapy cat, Josie, signed up at the last minute so there were two of us visiting.
First we headed for the Cancer Center. While Josie sat in the lap of a chemo patient in the infusion room, I visited with a woman who was waiting for her husband. She spoke to me in Spanish, which I always enjoy, and petted me lots. I also saw the chemo patient. It was an unusual experience because she’d never handled a cat before — and she got to spend time with two!
Next we went to Pediatrics, and there were lots of children to see. Josie and I stopped by all the rooms with kids who wanted to see us. One little girl came from a family with four cats. While I spent time on the bed with her, her mom told my human about the kitties.
The Pediatrics area was really noisy for part of our visit because there was construction going on nearby. It didn’t bother me (or Josie) because as a therapy cat, we’re supposed to take that sort of thing in stride. I think it bothered my human, though!
Also my human did a dumb thing — she neglected to securely close my package of freeze dried chicken treats and the bag spilled all over the inside of her tote bag. At least she saved most of the treats, but she had a big mess to clean up. But that was her problem — I had a nice visit.

Summer, I always think of you as a beautiful, talented, incredibly smart kitty but I’m most impressed by your therapy visits. I cannot imagine all the joy you bring to people in need of some kitty love and comfort
I bet you volunteered to help her clean up, MOL.
TW would LOVE to have a cat or two in her lap during chemo. It’s so boring especially when the iv is in her left hand and she can’t write or anything.
You two made for a great therapy team!
That must have been fun having Josie as a partner.
I bet you would’ve happily helped her clean up!
We are always amazed when we hear of people who have never handled a cat! How is that even possible?
Purrs,
Tama and Benny
You spread so much joy. I have been spending a lot of time at the cancer center with my sister and it sure would be nice to have a kitty visit there, but I don’t think there are any in that area.
I LOVE your therapy visits and hearing about Josie too!
That’s one of the prettier pictures I’ve seen of Pretty Summer! Look at those full eyes!!
That does sound like a very special visit sweet Summer, hooray for you and your human.
Sounds like a pawsome visit and so nice lots of kids benefitted by the visit by you and the other cat!!!
I believe in cat therapy and the power of the purr.
Hope you got lots of those treats Summer 😉

So, a bit nerve wracking for your human but you managed
to enjoy your work. Too bad about the treat mess. I would
have liked to see the scene – a large area with two visiting
therapy cats doing their work. I’m sure you made their day.
Summer, why didn’t you volunteer to clean out the spilled treats?
If Chili Bruce had been anywhere near, he’d have had his head stuffed into the tote bag before anyone could blink an eye!
How nice that you and Josie both got to visit. Maybe you can help clean up that tote bag?
Gee Summer, I’m surprised your human didn’t enlist your help with cleaning up that mess in her tote bag. Sure sounds like all those patients enjoyed your visits.
