A Miracle on Garden Thursday

May 3, 2012 By: Sparkle Cat33 Comments

For some reason, I can never make it all the way out to the nip plant.

I was wondering how my nip plant was doing — my human has been pretty much ignoring it for the past couple of weeks — so I thought I had better check up on it.

I can practically smell it from inside the house!

For the first time ever, I could see it peeking up over the planter!

It's almost time for a nip party!

Wow! It is a real nip bush now!

How chintzy!

Of course, no silver cloud comes without a gray lining. I thought my human would bring in some nice, big sprigs for me, but no! She pinched back some of the plant and brought back the tiny leaves she pinched off! Is it just me, or do you think I was gypped too?

    Dear Sparkle,
I can understand your disappointment. Does she really understand you when you say things to her? How do you two communicate?
    Best wishes,
    Anna

I think it does better when you clip it down periodically. Then it spreads and little bitty plants pop up all over the yard. We LOVE that part of catnip because Hobbes likes to lay on our plants and squish them to death.

Giving you the small leaves will make your nip grow bigger, but she could have given you a few big leaves too.

Well! You should be allowed to roll in that plant, Sparkle! But maybe pinching it means it will grow bushier? We’re furry jealous of your plant.

I think the tiniest leaves are the most tender and fragrant and potent, aren’t they?

That’s all she brought in? Are you kidding? You totally got gypped! She could have at least brought one big leaf. Sheesh! She needs to be reminded who’s the award winning author around there!

Gypped by nip? No way. Pinching will yield more nip.

    THOSE were tiny.
I think there is some need for drastic action here.

Our nip plant is coming nicely also. Mommie has to be careful about how much she gives us though because I like to eat the ‘nip. Why just sniff?

You’re so lucky. Mom never planted our catnip seeds. She better get on it before it’s too late for this year.

You were so gypped and with small leaves yet!!! But I don’t blame your human for holding out, I bet that she wants to make sure your plant gets bigger so that it will last longer.

That’s an impressive nip bush, Sparkle! Little scraps of leaves though? Well that’s just a tease. Certainly there’s SOMETHING you can do in retaliation.

You’ve got nip! Yoo-hoo! Actually, the plant looks extremely healthy. You should be able to get a good crop in by fall, I would think. Gosh, I sound just like a farmer cat, don’t I? But seriously, I just LOVE that first photo of you… Oh, you just gotta enter it in the BlogPaws best picture award. It’s so great! I think nominations close May 6th.

sigh, Mommy says we have almost killed out catnip plant. One of us ate a lot of it and another of us went rolling around on it. She is not sure it will come back up or not. So perhaps your Mommy is very wise and is insuring your plant will live so you can enjoy it for a very long time.

Oh Sparkle, that nip plant is looking good. Time for you to have a very large leaf. Our Mom needs to bring some in to us too. Ours is really doing well if we can just keep those outside cats from sitting in it. Take care.
