I had so many good visits at the big hospital this week. We started off in the Cancer Center. Even though the one person in the infusion room didn’t want to see me (“I’m good!” he told the nurse through the curtain), I saw several people in the waiting room. One was a guy with a cane who petted me for a very long time.
Next up was pediatrics, and we saw a security guard when we walked in. This usually means there is some sort of issue with a kid in their care. And that kid happened to be the first one we saw because she was dying to see me! She and her nurse were in one of the rooms that had windows, and both of them got really excited when they saw me come in. The girl was probably between 12 and 14, and she adored me. I loved hanging out with her, and I gave her high fives. The nurse loved me too, and she was happy and grateful we were there.
(In case you are wondering, we don’t know what the story was behind the girl. My human figures we are just there to be helpful and everything else is none of our business. So she never asks for details.)
The next kid we saw was a 5 year old boy on the other side of the wing. His nurse told me that he wanted to see a kitty, and that he wasn’t that enthusiastic about the dogs who visited over the weekend. Sometimes even the young ones just like kitties more and those are totally my people. He really enjoyed seeing me, and so did his mother. She FaceTimed with some family members and showed me visiting with her kid.
The other child we saw there was a young girl whose face was very swollen on one side. She was getting ready for surgery, and both her parents were there. I hung out with the girl on the bed while my human chatted with the father. The mother stood by the bed looking worried. My human assumed it was because of the girl’s surgery, but it turned out to be me! The father told us that dogs and cats made the mother anxious. So even though several of their four kids had asked for a dog or cat in the past, they’ve had to say no. I’m glad the mother was patient enough to allow me to spend time with her daughter because she really did enjoy me.
Some residents were coming out of their workroom when we were heading for the elevator, so we stopped and hung out with them for a few minutes before going over to Labor and Delivery. As is often the case, there weren’t any patients available for visits, but the nurses were so happy to see me! They always make me feel like a celebrity when I show up. They take photos and make such a fuss over me. And I love being made a fuss over.
Maybe this doesn’t sound like that much of a standout day, but it was really pretty special.

Summer, I am so proud of you making people’s days much more enjoyable.
It takes a special kind of Kitty to do that, and you are just The One. I know that those people were so grateful for your visit.
Thank you, Summer, for being so special, kind and caring to others. You are certainly “One of a Kind.”
Love you Little Lady!
Summer, you do such wunnerful things and bring happiness to so many patients…
Your work is the best kind of special, Summer!
Summer, you and your human are wonderful for making time in your lives for these Therapy Cat visits. I have been in and out of the hospital a number of times and I would have loved to see a kitty because I was really missing my boys. No dogs for me…just kitties!
Summer you always bring such a joy wherever you go. By the way, you are a celebrity sweetie
It sounds wonderful. You and your human are just amazing.
Summer, you are like a ray of sunshine for everyone you visit!
You and your human make the world a better plce. XO
I’m so glad you had a good visit with all of those people in the hospital, including the staff. It’s a tough job so having a moment or two of fun and brightness in the day is wonderful.
Summer, anywhere you go you make everyday a special day.❤️
Well, it sounds like “standout” to me. I try to imagine what it
would be like to walk around and have strangers smiling and
obviously happy to see me. Very pleasant I imagine. You do
a great favor for all those people you go to visit. Your fur looks
especially nice in this close up.
You ARE a celebrity, Summer!
It’s so good of you and your human to make such a difference for people in a hospital setting, Summer! Hospitals stays are so dreary. A visiting cat can really brighten a day!
You really bring joy to so many, Summer.
I know I would have been over the moon to see you if I had ever had the opportunity.
I read “because she was dying” and I felt really bad until I reach the end of the sentence “to see me.”
I think it sounds like a busy day. You got to see lots of people and I bet you made them
feel happy. It is said that patting cats(and dogs ) can lower a person’s BP. That is a huge benefit.
The ones that enjoyed your visit will most likely feel the benefit for some time 🙂
Purrs, Julie
You always make the staff and the patients happy, Summer.
It’s good that you made so many people happy, Summer.
