It’s a universal theme amongst us cats: our humans are always sticking cameras in our faces when we least want them! So I thought I would do you a favor and share some of my most successful avoidance tactics from recent photo sessions. They are very simple, but they have ruined countless shoots.
The first one is to merely look everywhere but at the camera. And I mean everywhere. Make it super obvious that you are not looking on purpose.
Here is another good one: blink, so that your eyes are half closed when your human clicks the shutter. Do your best to hide your pupils — it looks creepier that way.
I call this one, “That speck of dust is more interesting than you trying to photograph me.”
And when all else fails, just leave.
Hope this helps!
Oh! I had not seen this one! Gotta show your post to Milou. He’s very good at it.
I’m getting better at it too. Thanks for the advice =^.^=
Awesome tips, Sparkle! I’m sure that there are lots of kitties out there taking notes right now.
And NO WONDER you’re so peeved: where are the treats? where are the bribes? I mean, come on…..a gal cannot work for free afterall!
Manny is great at the last tactic–leaving. That’s why most photos on our book blog are of me with the books!
Pawsome tutorial. We do this all the time! MOL!
Ha! I laughed out loud at the hidden pupil one – Melly does that all the time!
MOL, wicked! We lick our tails – that seems to work too.
Nice advice, Sparkle. I gotta say you look super-sexay with your eyes narrowed to little slits like that, heh heh.
fabulous tips Sparkle! I use many of those already. Another good one is to keep moving so that you become nothing but a BLURRRRRRRRRRRR….Love, Cody
good ones, Sparkle! Tho you do look good in your out takes 🙂 We always stop doing whatever it is we were doing that made our mom get the flashy box in the first place! Also a great trick for the movie box 😉
Pip, Smidgen, Minnie, Hollie
great tips Sparkle! The one I use the most is leaving.
Oo, I like the one about hiding your pupils so it looks creepy. I will have to try that. My best creepy looks come if they use the flash and it makes my eyes a funny color – not lasers, but weird.
Those are all very good avoidance techniques Sparkle! We’ll be sure to remember those and use them sometime!
We appreciate your tips Sparkle!

As always Sparkle, you are one smart Ladycat! Thanks for the great tips.
Those are all excellent tips!
I am a pro at the squint-face technique. Of course, that’s mostly because my Photographer forgets to turn the stupid flash off, so I just assume she’s going to blind me. Over and over and over again.
Great advice as always, Miss Sparkle! We’ll have to add those to our arsenal. My 2 favorite things to do are to stick my face real close to the camera or to wake up when my mom is trying to catch me snoozing all cute like.
I wanted to stop by to thank you for visiting me on my gotcha day! I LOVE gotcha days – even better than birthdays! And for you to visit me even after we hardly ever blog or visit anymore is just very, very nice of you. So THANK YOU!!!!
Love, Zoe
Lol–still always great pictures of cats! I have 8 now and get a good variety that way.
Great camera tips Sparkle! My personal favorite is to sit there in the pose but make sure my eyes are closed! Mer has perfected the art of closing them just as Mommy takes the shot.

I don’t know Sparkle, I rather like having my photo taken. Being a famous SpokesGoat it’s part of my job and I do get treats so I really don’t mind at all. The Farm cats do take your advice though
Your suggestions are great!!!
I use to walk away, or should say that I was so happy to have a new and loving home that I woud run around like crazy when I was a kitten. So it wasn’t easy then to take a picture of me unless I was sleeping. Now I hide inside the sofa to take my naps so I won’t be bothered.
Those are all good tricks that I’ve tried and tried. When TW can’t get a good shot, she brings the flashy box out more. I’ve learned that if she can get a good shot the first time, she’ll go away, not that I always let her.
Miss Sparkle, thanks for the tips. Another thing not to do is look cute! Just saying ..
Oh Sparkle you are a toughie!!!
My technique is called “The Blur” … move SO fast that you are, literally, nothing but a blur (this works particularly well if your hooman has a crappy cell phone camera like my MomKatt does MOL)! Then they REALLY get disgusted & quit!
PURRS!

As always, puurfffect advice! But you know, no matter what, you can’t take a bad pic? We don’t think any feline can, actually.
masterful plans sweetie. I’ve used a few of those techniques myself, and am always anxioius to learn of other techniques.
We use these, but didn’t know the one about hiding your pupils! Good one! I have built in help because of my black furrrs. For some reason this makes it hard for mom to get a good photo of me indoors without a flash. You should see the kazillion outtakes of me! It makes me purrrr. That’s why mom ends up pointing the camera at my siblings and my momma.
Hoping that my human does not read this! She follows me everywhere with the camera and now she pulls out the phone to take Pics, Walking away doesn’t work, she FOLLOWS me! How Rude.
Those are great tips, Sparkle! You should hear our mom’s wheedling tone of voice when she tries to get us to look at the camera. it’s pathetic.
Once mum has picked up the camera we know we are in for a sleepless day as we try and dodge the flashy box!
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
These are very helpful tips, Sparkle! We’ll have to try them right away since our humans are always taking pictures!
Those are some excellent suggestions, Sparkle…we do those most of the time. Every once in awhile we give the photographer one good shot just to get them off our backs. It never seems to be enough, though.
Your final suggestion is what we do all the time. Just leave the scene. But those are all great suggestions. We will have to try them out. Thanks for letting us know. Take care.
Oh, I am all too familiar with these tactics!
Ya actally look well photoed. Hope ya found a got hidey place.
I would do that too Miss Sparkle !
If you notice my mom always took a photo me outdoor because I’m pretty O.K. with it, if not too long. But indoor I walk away too !
Did I ever tell you ? I think you look so bootiful ! That’s why your human can’t let you Alone : )
xox
Lol ! I get my cats by surprise and I don’t use the flash when I can avoid it, otherwise they also would close their eyes or run away !!
Arthur is completely well now and becomes fat !!
