Kitty Tutorial: How NOT to Get Photographed

October 11, 2011 By: Sparkle Cat40 Comments

It’s a universal theme amongst us cats: our humans are always sticking cameras in our faces when we least want them! So I thought I would do you a favor and share some of my most successful avoidance tactics from recent photo sessions. They are very simple, but they have ruined countless shoots.

The first one is to merely look everywhere but at the camera. And I mean everywhere. Make it super obvious that you are not looking on purpose.

This one is just the beginning of a ruined photo session.

You can tell how much I wish my human would go away.

The really great trick is that except for my head, I did not have to move!

Here is another good one: blink, so that your eyes are half closed when your human clicks the shutter. Do your best to hide your pupils — it looks creepier that way.

This photo is TOTALLY unusable! Unless somekitty is showing you how NOT to be photographed.

I call this one, “That speck of dust is more interesting than you trying to photograph me.”

What can I say? It WAS more interesting!

And when all else fails, just leave.

Even a good window whiff is not worth the annoyance.

Hope this helps!

Manny is great at the last tactic–leaving. That’s why most photos on our book blog are of me with the books!

good ones, Sparkle! Tho you do look good in your out takes 🙂 We always stop doing whatever it is we were doing that made our mom get the flashy box in the first place! Also a great trick for the movie box 😉

Oo, I like the one about hiding your pupils so it looks creepy. I will have to try that. My best creepy looks come if they use the flash and it makes my eyes a funny color – not lasers, but weird.

I am a pro at the squint-face technique. Of course, that’s mostly because my Photographer forgets to turn the stupid flash off, so I just assume she’s going to blind me. Over and over and over again.

Great advice as always, Miss Sparkle! We’ll have to add those to our arsenal. My 2 favorite things to do are to stick my face real close to the camera or to wake up when my mom is trying to catch me snoozing all cute like.

I wanted to stop by to thank you for visiting me on my gotcha day! I LOVE gotcha days – even better than birthdays! And for you to visit me even after we hardly ever blog or visit anymore is just very, very nice of you. So THANK YOU!!!!

    Love, Zoe

Great camera tips Sparkle! My personal favorite is to sit there in the pose but make sure my eyes are closed! Mer has perfected the art of closing them just as Mommy takes the shot.

I don’t know Sparkle, I rather like having my photo taken. Being a famous SpokesGoat it’s part of my job and I do get treats so I really don’t mind at all. The Farm cats do take your advice though

    Your suggestions are great!!!

I use to walk away, or should say that I was so happy to have a new and loving home that I woud run around like crazy when I was a kitten. So it wasn’t easy then to take a picture of me unless I was sleeping. Now I hide inside the sofa to take my naps so I won’t be bothered.

Those are all good tricks that I’ve tried and tried. When TW can’t get a good shot, she brings the flashy box out more. I’ve learned that if she can get a good shot the first time, she’ll go away, not that I always let her.

My technique is called “The Blur” … move SO fast that you are, literally, nothing but a blur (this works particularly well if your hooman has a crappy cell phone camera like my MomKatt does MOL)! Then they REALLY get disgusted & quit!

We use these, but didn’t know the one about hiding your pupils! Good one! I have built in help because of my black furrrs. For some reason this makes it hard for mom to get a good photo of me indoors without a flash. You should see the kazillion outtakes of me! It makes me purrrr. That’s why mom ends up pointing the camera at my siblings and my momma.

Those are some excellent suggestions, Sparkle…we do those most of the time. Every once in awhile we give the photographer one good shot just to get them off our backs. It never seems to be enough, though.
