June is a very big month in the feline world. For one thing it is Adopt A Shelter Cat Month! There are no firm figures, but it’s a given that several million cats die in shelters every year, most of them because nobody has come to adopt them. Many humans — and many cats like me — are working to change this sad state of affairs. This particular June, there is an extra-big push to get people out to adopt shelter kitties. We want to save more cats and kittens than ever before! Over the next 30 days, I will be blogging about shelter cats and urging you to spread the world about what great companions they make. My human knows this for a fact because my roommate, Binga, came from one of the meanest, toughest shelters in Los Angeles. And both she and her boyfriend think Binga is the best cat ever.
Okay, so maybe she is not the most shining example of a shelter cat! So I am going to go on with the other big news for June: it is my birthday month! My birthday is June 24 and that is over three weeks away, so I have lots of time to throw a contest that has to do with both my birthday and shelter cats! It’s a shelter cat-only contest and the winner will get a copy of my first book, Dear Sparkle: Advice From One Cat to Another. (By the way, my new book is coming out in August and I will have a contest then too — and all kitties will be eligible!)
In the winner’s book, I will include a personally PAWtographed book plate!
The contest has two parts. Here is the first one: I want you adopted shelter cats to tell me your stories! Use the comments section below to give me your adoption story. Do try to keep it short, only one brief paragraph. You will see why I want you to keep it short in a moment. You have between now and June 15, midnight Pacific Time, to tell your story. After that, comments here will be closed.
Now comes part two: After the comments are closed, I will have one long blog post with all the stories, and everyone will be able to vote on their favorite! Your votes will be logged by cookie and IP, so you should only be able to vote once! The poll will go until June 23 (the day before my birthday), midnight Pacific time, and whoever has the most votes will win the book!
This is going to be a fun contest — I am looking forward to hearing everyone’s story!
