I will be honest. I was not going to actively campaign for the Petties this year. Campaigning for contests takes up a lot of energy that I feel I could use better by working on quality posts for my blog, putting together my new book and having my human create new items for my Zazzle store. I like helping out causes that benefit cats, but I feel I could do better work by focusing energy on my own instead of trying to win a contest where, if I don’t win, the rescue does not get anything except maybe some temporary publicity.
I’ve won two Petties. Do I really need to do this again? Well, guess what — the answer, I have decided, is YES!
Why am I jumping in again when you can tell I’m not as enthusiastic about this as I have been in the past? Because there are cats out there who need our help who don’t have a voice, and who have been getting kicked around a lot lately: our feral brothers and sisters! They have been getting a bad rap from organizations that are manipulating statistics to make them look like they are decimating the bird population (not true). Misguided humans think ferals are dirty and disease-ridden, when the truth is that cats in a managed feral colony are as healthy as most housecats — they are spayed and neutered and receive vaccinations, flea control and medical care.
So nominate me for whatever categories you want, but please help raise awareness for our extended feral family by nominating Humans Are Willfully Destroying Our Bird TV! for Best Blog Post: https://www.sparklecat.com/special/humans-are-willfully-destroying-our-bird-tv. It shows where the blame for bird deaths really lies: in human encroachment.
I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for us to push back these cat-hating humans who want to do terrible things to feral cats. I hope my blog post gets in the finals. If it does, I will ask you to help me pick a local rescue organization that specializes in helping feral cats.
Nominate me here: http://petties.dogtime.com/nominations. You will have to log in, either with an email or your Facebook profile. Once you have, you can nominate any blogs you want, but make sure you enter me for Best Blog Post. You can do this once a day, every day until June 28. Thanks!
🙂 done
I will nominate you for sure Sparkle!!! and will vote!!
Hi Sparkle!
Wow that is so admirable. We share your sentiments. And while we have never put our hat in the ring, we are also considering for the same REASONS! The cat haters (via bird orgs) have overtaken the media this year with junk science. We are fighting back!
Riverfront Cats is in the trenches caring for ferals and getting them medical care AND we’re getting to the root of the problem through education. It will be exhausting on top of blogging, on top of feeding, managing, rescuing injured ferals on top of fundraising (we’re still paying for Leroy’s leg amputation). But we will find a way!
We will nominate you and perhaps you will consider our nonprofit, Riverfront Cats part of Pawsitively Humane,Inc. No pwessure!
We’re all in this together.
Christine
We feel exactly the same way and almost didn’t enter the race either. I wish we weren’t up for the same awards but I will give you a nom for best article.
It’s done – good luck.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
We’ll nominate you, Sparkle…for the feral cats!
We’ll do it!
You certainly deserve this award.
Good luck Sparkle. I just entered my dog in her first “contest” which is related to the petties. You are right about one thing – it sure does take a lot of time campaigning! I think you have a good chance at winning another award 🙂
Voted. Good luck.
We’ll definitely nominate you, Sparkle!
