How to Rock a Harness Like a Pro (and How NOT to!)

September 16, 2014 By: Summer Samba66 Comments

I feel naked without my harness on!

Most of you know that part of being a therapy cat involves wearing a harness. When I am ready to go visiting, I will have to be on a leash, and a harness is the most comfortable way for a cat to be on a leash. Even if you are not a therapy cat in training, being on a leash is cool because you can go outside with your humans and still be safe. So if you think you would enjoy going outside, maybe you can talk your human into harness and leash training you.

Hey! It smells like me!

This is my first, and current harness. In case you are wondering, it is a Puppia Flame Harness, size small. My human was originally going to get a vest style harness like the one Charlie Rascal is wearing in this blog post, but when she saw this one, she decided it would be better to start me off with something a little more lightweight.

It only takes a minute to get it on me - I am very cooperative!

It slips over my head easily and closes with a heavy-duty, secure plastic snap.

Maybe I can be a supermodel like Sparkle was.

Doesn’t it look nice on me? I like posing with my harness on. I will confess it is just a little big around the neck, but I will grow into it in a few months, if not sooner.

Shopping for cat litter is serious business!

My human can securely fasten me into my carrier when we go out shopping. I like how the harness makes me look professional and stylish!

The reward of a job well done!

Every time I wear my harness I get treats and skritches! Since I don’t mind wearing it, it’s kind of like getting bribed for something I already like to do.

Oh yeah, I am also supposed to show you how not to wear a harness!

I refuse to tell how I did this.

Like I said, the neck is a little big on me right now. I am taking advantage of that because I know there will be a day that I won’t be able to do this!

Disclosure: Link to Amazon is an affiliate link, although my human actually purchased the harness at a local — gasp! — dog boutique.

Of course, Coco loves pink, too and thinks the flames give it even more pizzaz! And wiggling out of it (almost) make it kinda look like a G-String, hahameow!

Your harness does look very nice on you Summer. I have one too and it’s black. Mom takes me outside for walks and I even have a video of me walking with it. She doesn’t have it tight enough and if she pulls too hard, it will slip off. She finally found one that clips together over my shoulder blades because other kinds I’ve had clipped under my rib cage and kept pinching my fur….neither of us liked that. =^,,^=

You wear that like a champ Summer. The only one of us to ever harness is Rumpy. Dad had to get him a special one from Kitty Holster http://www.kittyholster.com/ since he could back out of a normal harness. The big goof had Dad stuck in the drive for a half hour once keeping tension on his harness so he would not escape as they slowly worked back to the door. (Dad cannot walk without his cane so picking him up as he was wiggling was too much) Dad was not happy.
Now they can go out safely. Maybe you can do a review of this harness for others to see?

Summer, thank you for modelling this harness for us, the ape is looking for a more chesty harness for me that will be comfier than the ones I have. The one you are wearing looks like it will fit the bill perfectly. Nice wiggling out of it too Summer!

We never wear a harness, but your harness looks comfy to wear, it’s pretty, and it suits you well (size and look) ! Purrs

Summer we have the same harness! I can wriggle out of mine if I pull the wrong way against my leash but I’m sure you’re too well behaved to try that! I enjoy walks with it on but if the humans look away for more than a min, well I like to explore! Hehe! My roller case is similar to yours too but mine is a manly black of course! =^.^=

We have a puppia too – however our human says that we don’t look nearly as cute in ours as you do in yours, Summer!

Cool harness, Summer! Sophie has one for her adventures outside and her soon-to-be therapy cat visits. Mom is thinking of getting her a new one more like yours though.. That last photo is so silly!!!

Typist is very impressed that your harness matches your carrier. Anyone would think it had been planned that way ;0)
