When my human looked at the schedule the night before our therapy cat visit, she was really happy. There were two dog teams accompanying us, and we knew both of them — and the dogs were both cat friendly! She always worries when it is a dog we don’t know. And sometimes we do know the dog, and he doesn’t really like cats (that’s actually not a problem because we just visit different parts of the hospital). To have not one, but two really awesome dogs was a special treat for us.
We got to the hospital a little early, and the dogs — Clementine the Saint Bernard and Reggie the Corgi — weren’t ready yet. (I think they were outside “doing their business.”) So we visited the hospital waiting room. There was a mother with three boys. The boys were excited to see me. One asked, “Is she friendly?” and my human told him, “She’s very friendly. In fact, she is here to make friends!” And it’s true. I’m there to make friends on my therapy cat visits, and I do every time I go.
Because all the teams knew each other, it was a pleasant visit. The hospital was pretty quiet today, so we often visited patients together. At the Skilled Nursing Wing, we all posed for a photo with one patient. At the Pediatrics wing, none of the children were bedridden, so all the therapy animals sat in the hallway and the kids and the parents visited with us and it was like a little party. Because we are all experienced therapy teams, we could do that within protocol — each of us staying a safe distance from the others, but having a nice time. One little girl couldn’t get enough of me, and I gave a boy a few high fives.
I finished up the visit in the Rehab wing with an older lady, who couldn’t get out of bed. She didn’t speak much English, but of course that never matters much. I just curled up next to her and made my happy paws and purred. “You’re going to stay with me, right?” she said. I totally could have! Clementine and Reggie and their humans were waiting for us when we finished, and we signed out together. This was one of my nicer therapy cat visits.
