I was beginning to think that my human was never going to figure out how to get my first book, Dear Sparkle: Advice from One Cat to Another,
The good news is that now she knows how to do it. The bad news is I am really concerned she is going to forget how by the time there is another book for her to format for Kindle. Anyway, let me tell you a few things about the Kindle version of my book!
- You can download a sample! Amazon will send you the first few pages of my book — all you have to do is sign into your Amazon account and they will give you my cover and the pages up through my Introduction.
- Even though you can’t sample the rest of the book, you can still see some of the advice part of it through the “Look Inside” function on Amazon page where the paper version lives!
- You don’t need a Kindle to download it! You can read the Kindle edition on your iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry, PC or Mac — Amazon has apps for all of them!
- Although the interior of the book is in black and white in the paper version and everything including the cover is grayscale on the Kindle, in most of the other apps, all the photos are in color!
Here is an example. This is a page from the Kindle version of Dear Sparkle: Advice from One Cat to Another on the Kindle:
Here is what is looks like on the iPad:
And here is what it looks like on an iPhone:
If you want to see if you can get the color version on your device, it is easy: all you have to do is download the free sample and look at the cover. If it is in color, you can get the color version!
- It is also available on Amazon UK and Amazon Germany (although it is still the English version). And yes, my human is working on a ePub version that will be available outside of Amazon and hopefully also on iTunes!
- And in case you did not know, you can get my blog sent to your Kindle too!
You want to hear something funny? My human is still not all that handy with the actual Kindle device and she just accidentally bought a copy of my book! MOL! So I already have one satisfied customer — you can be next!
That’s IS exciting news! All this technology, keeps me in a constant state of confusion, glad you have someone who got it figured out! 😀
This is awesome!
Sparkle, that is AMAZING!! I am so very impressed with you and your Mommeh!! Can I tell everyone that I “know” you??? Please????! 🙂
Congratulations….that must be exciting….wish I could have a book printed in any way too.
Nice!
Was there a lot of bad word saying going on while she was trying to format it? The Woman was working on her newest book and MAN! *LOTS* of bad words were said here…and she’s done it a bazillion times before!
I have the print book, but I’m gonna get the Kindle one, too. Then the Woman can show it to people while she’s out and about. She does stuff like that….
Pawesome news! Our mom would never figure such a thing out.
Sumbuddy gave my Human a Kindle for her birthday about a year and a half ago. She turned it on once and ordered a book. Then she turned it off and that’s the last time she ever turned it on! MOL! She is soooooo lame!
Oh concats Sparkle!! Mom says congrats to your human too!
We used Smashwords to distribute all the non-kindle e-book versions. We’ve been really happy with it.
CONCATULATIONS!!! Now you will just be a paw print away!! xoxo
Just loaded your book to my Xoom. It’s gorgeous. Can’t wait to read it.
Well Done SparkleMom
My Mum is waiting on her iPad and she will get the book when she has it. WooHoo – you must be thrilled to be at the forefront of electronic media Sparkle! * High Paw *

Sparkle, the Kindle images you shared look great. The photos come out better than I would have thought! I hope you sell a squillion copies!
That’s exciting Sparkle! We’re very impressed with your human for getting that done! Our mommy doesn’t have a Kindle or an iPad or a smartphone. She’s pretty pathetic. But we do have your book in paper format!
*whew*
Sparkle
Your Mom is a genius!

MOL! “She just accidentally bought a copy of my book!” sounds exactly like something MY human bean would do! 😉
Hey congrats on that! All the versions look awesome! We’re old-fashioned at Headquarters so we would stick to the original book form.
Well that was quick! Just kidding. Guess I know what I’ll be doing this weekend, downloading your book. I have the hardcopy but I want it in my Kindle too!
Miss Sparkle, our mom is in the dark ages. She hasn’t been able to choose between a Nook or a Kindle, so she has nothing. And she’s got this weird anti-Apple/Mac thing going on, so no iPhones or iPads here either. But, we did just buy your books in hard copy – now getting her to read them to us has been another issue entirely.
I just bought your book. I can’t wait to download it to my Xoom so I can see it in glorious color. I could put it on my Kindle, but I think you’re prettier in color than in B&W. MOL
Concatulations on getting your human to do that! I will have to try and get the Woman to buy it for her Kindle!
COOL! Mommy has a Kindle and she loves it! Of course, we won our copy from YOU!
Tell her to let all her Kindle-owning cat-loving friends know!
Wow! this is super Sparkle, Me is going to have to check yous out on my iPad. Me loves my iPad!

Your human sounds a lot like my publicist…..
Oh Sparkle…you deserve this honor!!! Concatulations, sweet girl.

That’s terrific, Sparkle!! Good thing we have our paper copy since our mom doesn’t have a kindle or ipad or iphone.
You look much prettier in the colour version Sparkle – we’re glad your mom found out how to do it.

Wow, that is terrific Sparkle. We will just have to be satisfied with the paper addition. We don’t have any of those gizmos. But I will tell some of my friends that use kindle to get your book. I think Kindle is very popular. I see people all over using them.
Did it cost your mom to get your book on Kindle? I’d sure like to know how she did this because I already have an ebook version of my book but know know how to make it available on Kindle.
It did not cost her anything, other than taking some tutorials on lynda.com because it was hard to figure out how to make a mobi file from InDesign. If you already have an epub and you are on a PC you can use mobipocket creator to make the mobi file that is compatible with Kindle. Usually epubs need tweaks to make it totally Kindle-friendly, and you can do those fixes with an open software (read: free) program called Sigil. You can find out more on Amazon’s own Kindle publishing page here.
All Look nice !!! Concatulation, Sparkle !!!
Concatulations! We’re purry furry pleased to hear this. You are a superstar, Sparkle!
