Doubling Down at the Vet

October 7, 2011 By: Sparkle Cat32 Comments

Are you as sick of seeing me here as I am being here?

I think I go to the vet more than any other kitty around. At least, I go more than any kitty who is not really sick. They ran a few more tests on me to see why I don’t eat that much, although this vet thinks I may just be one of those rare cats who is not particularly into food! But the other big reason I was here is that Boodie was having a check-up and her teeth were being looked at. Every time Boodie comes back from the vet, and especially when she has her teeth worked on, I attack her, even though she is twice my size. And I get violent! So my human was hoping that having us both here together would stop that from happening.

I can still smell her, though!

And where is Boodie, you might ask? She was already taken to some torture chamber in back to have her blood taken and her teeth scaled when my human realized that she had left her camera in the car. That’s why the quality of these photos is so lousy. She had to take them with her iPad. There are a lot of good things about the iPad, but the camera is not one of them.

Next time why don't you take Binga and Boodie together? I can't be mad at them BOTH... can I?

As you can tell, I was thoroughly disgusted with the whole trip. If I was going to be mad at anybody when I got home, it was going to be my human.

Thrilled that she got to be photographed with the GOOD camera.

My human considered the trip a success. Boodie only needed the scaling, not a full teeth cleaning. She wonders if taking the dry food out of her diet and feeding her only grain-free canned food helped, because she had awful teeth before! And I did not attack her when we got home. The catnip she sprinkled in the carriers might have helped with that too. But I really hope she does not make a habit of dragging me along to every vet visit any of us cats need!

I can’t bring both kitties to the vet because I can’t lift Hobbes very easily in his carrier–he is a heavy guy. And I like to give each kitty my undivided attention at the vet–I think mine need it. Call it “our day out together”. Heck, Grace has been going so much lately, I call them “dates”. Ugh. She is NOT a cheap date.

I wonder if this lack of appetite hasn’t something to do with the season. Arthur for now reason (the blood test, teeth everything was good) didn’t eat anymore and lost more than 1 kg. Now after an anti inflamation shot he eats like a horse and has gained his weight back (almost) talking with my neighbors who also have spayed male cats, they also noticed that their cats for the moment don’t eat very well. Neutred or not it’s still the “love” season for cats, lol !

Sorry you had to go to the vet, Sparkle! I’m glad Boodie’s teeth are better, though.

I take the cats everywhere together so that neither one develops a different smell – as your mom discovered, different smells = violence. And my two are violent enough!

Boodie looks like quite the put-upon diva in the last picture 😀 Since our vet is so far away, our mom tries to double up appointments. It sure isn’t fair when you have to go yet you don’t need to go!

Dragging you along is not acceptable! After all, it’s not like she’s taking you to the movies, or the park or the burger drive-through. Total FAIL.

Sparkle, thank you for not being one of those super models that claim they eat a lot and just don’t gain weight. At the risk of sounding immodest, I must say that I have beautiful pearly white teeth at six years old and I eat primarily dry food. I’ve also chewed my way out of a carrier like yours. My teeth are very sharp. It could be that the answer isn’t as simple as eating dry food. It’s probably a combination of factors.

Well, I have bad teeth, but mom is afraid to have my teeth cleaned because of putting me under. I have bad breath too. Hee hee. You look pretty brave there.
Oh and my mom works from home too but we get mad when she is working and not paying attention to us.

Sparkle, you were very good not to attack Boodie! And good news on her teeth, too!

    I haven’t had a dental yet … I’m wondering if I’m going to get one …

We’re glad that Boodie’s teeth were better! She’s so beautiful! Sparkle, you are just too busy being a famous author and supermodel that it’s hard to find time to eat! Was Binga glad to see you both after your trip to the v-e-t?

All’s well that ends well. It’s all those weird smells at the vet that cats react to. Spraying the carrier with Comfort Zone or other pheromone product helps. We’re due for our checkups later this month but mom scoops us into her arms and straight into the mobile vet clinic in the driveway before we can protest. Have a great weekend!

Personally I’d stop bothering the other cats when they come home from the vet so I didn’t have to go all the time. Really.

Last time we went to the vet – tooth cleaning and Hannah were made in the same breath!!
Mum is dreading taking us again for our checkup in case we have to make the dreaded appointment. The vet is torn between them needing to be done and that fact that she has asthma and would need to be knocked out before any work could be done.

I bet you were glad they didn’t do anything to YOU Sparkle!
Mom will have to check with our vet whether they will do a scaling without putting us out. She is putting off doing the full cleaning because she thinks it is somewhat of a way to make money at the vets and some friends’ cat got a really bad infection after having it done, cost them lots of money, and died anyway.

That was a good idea to take both of you to the vet to stop you attacking Boodie.
Sparkle, please note that was not either of us saying that, it was our mum!!!
I, Flynn usually hiss at Eric for a week or more after he has been to the vet, but I haven’t attacked him…yet.

    Hi, Sparkle,
I don’t think I’ve ever met Boodie before. A beautiful kitty. Ah, the magic of catnip! It always soothes the savage beast in us, doesn’t it??

I’ve got to go to the vet soon because of my breath. I eat alright, Cod knows, but my humans are beginning to pass out when I purr..just kidding.

    Have a good weekend!

That doesn’t seem fair Sparkle that you had to go to the vet too but if it worked to keep from attacking Boodie, it probably is a good thing. Besides a little adventure isn’t too bad. Hope all of you have a better day today. Take care.

Hurray for Boodie’s improvement in her dental health. I’m sure taking away the dry food made a difference. The myth that dry food cleans cats’ teeth just won’t die. If that were true, pediatricians would tell their patients to eat hard candy or crackers to clean kids’ teeth!

Dad used to make me and poo-face Salvador go to the vet together but now I get to go by myself, just once a year for my check up. Mum keeps threatening to leave Teddy behind when he goes to the vet.

We feel for you both, Sparkle! We were supposed to double up yesterday at the vet, but of course Derry had to go last week and then it was my turn (Nicki) yesterday.

BTW, our mom really is leaning toward grains and veggies in our diets as being the culprit for our tooth problems. The vet, of course, recommended the gigantic pieces of kibble to scrape our tartar off our few remaining teeth, in spite of the fact that Derry has only one upper molar left and can’t chew. *Headdesk* Will vets ever become more educated about pet food? Not in our lifetimes, that’s for certain.

Anyway, we’re glad Boodie just needed a scaling. We’ll have to go in, but they’ll put us out for that. It’s not urgent, though, thank cod!

Here’s hoping none of us has to return to *that* place for a long time!
