We are all aware of the terrible disasters that have been going on in Japan — first the earthquake, then the tsunami and now the nuclear crisis. Right now the Japanese humans need all the help they can get, and so do their animals. While our humans are donating to humanitarian organizations such as the Red Cross, I am happy to see that the pet blogging community is joining together to help the animal victims. Today has been set aside as a major fundraising day for World Vets, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that so far has done work in 28 different countries over six continents to provide veterinary aid to animals in need. Not only animals are helped, but humans too, in developing or disaster-ridden areas where health issues may be impacted by zoonotic diseases.
Staff and supplies from World Vets are already in Japan, and responder teams are on standby, ready to go in as soon as they get the word. They are looking for donations of supplies as well as funds; you can find out more by visiting their Japan Disaster Relief page.
My human has pledged to donate one dollar for each comment made today on this post. Only one comment is allowed per family, and the commenthon will end at 11:59 p.m. tonight, March 17, Pacific Time. So please tell all your friends to stop by! I’ll let you know the results on Friday.
NOTE: I had no idea there were going to be so many comments! They have been coming in faster than I can approve them. My human was expecting between 100 and 200 comments and right now we are at 230, with nearly 6 more hours to go! Honestly, she can’t afford a whole lot more, so we have to close the comments and she will make it an even $300 to go to World Vets.
If you would like to donate some money yourself, there is a red ChipIn widget to your right. If you are a United States resident, your donations are tax deductible.

Thank you (and your Mommy) so much for doing this. I have 2 cats (Makaze and Roxy) and my Mom has 3 (Kaji, Mochi and Sugar.) I hope that if my babies were in need, someone would help them as you (both) are.
Thanks again,
Kat (and Makaze, Roxy, Kaji, Mochi and Sugar)

Hello Sparkle – you look like a ruddy Somali! My sister has a Somali named Kumari. Here is her web page, although her evil owner has not updated it in a while: http://users.erols.com/ziring/kumari.htm . Kumari will be 16 on March 22nd, she is still going strong and is a great cat.
