Christmas Eve falls on Caturday this year, which means it is officially Catmas Eve. And my human finished decorating the tree just in time! It took her forever this year. Maybe it’s a little forgivable since she spent a lot of time working on videos of me. But still, it would have been nice to have it finished sooner. I’ve had to nap under a half-decorated tree all week.
Here’s a different angle with a better view of the tree’s ornaments. We are missing a few this year since we gifted some of our favorites to a couple who are very good friends of ours. But as you can see, there are more than enough.
Of course I had to wear a festive dress to go with the holiday.
For this year’s holiday season, I want to remind you about something. While a lot of people are having a warm time with family or friends, a lot of people are sad and lonely this time of year. Maybe you are even one of those people. And the best thing you can do this time of year, or any time, is to open your heart… and your ears. Because what people want more than anything else in life is to be heard, and listened to without judgement. That’s why therapy pets make such a big difference. Because we are there for the people we visit, and we understand without needing words.
If you are one of those people who are sad this year, if you can find it within yourself to just consciously be kind to the people you encounter, it might help a little. My human knows that when she is having a bad day — especially the really bad days! — the best thing she can have on her schedule is a therapy cat visit with me. Because it takes her outside of herself and it helps her focus on others. And she always comes back from our visits feeling better!
Of course, you don’t even have to go volunteer somewhere to be kind. You can do that while running errands. You never know — maybe that parking space you let someone else have really made a difference in their day! In fact, you don’t even have to leave your house. With all the meanness on the internet, the best thing you can do there is to be kind. Always remember that.

Our Christmas is very low-key, just us kitties, Ollie and #1. It’s been that way since close family all went to the Bridge. And someone, no-one ever seems to think of inviting “outsiders” to join their family celebrations. But we feel lucky because we have each other, and are safe and cozy in our home.

That’s some good advice, Summer. This can be a sad time of year for some people. We all need to be more kind.
It is a rough time of year, especially when we’ve got the extra layer of cold, wintery weather adding to the stress levels.
