I visited the children’s hospital on Friday. The first two kids in the lobby didn’t want to see me (even though I wanted to see them!). Then there was a girl who was really excited and held out her arms to me. Underneath her mask, my human could tell she was most likely born with some serious medical issues. Funny enough, I didn’t even notice that. I was just happy to have a new friend. I also met a young girl in a stroller who enjoyed me, and was petted by a girl standing with the help of a pair of crutches.
Next we visited the exam rooms. It seemed like nearly every kid was getting x-rays, or their parents were looking at their x-rays. The first child we saw was a girl wearing cat ears! Of course she was thrilled to see me. The next girl I saw was in a hospital top and had to leave for her x-rays. She was bummed she couldn’t spend more time with me. Then I saw a little boy and spent time with him while the doctor and his mother discussed his broken arm. The children during this visit were all exceptionally nice.
Back out in the lobby, I visited with a toddler, and a family with two girls. One of them was quiet and seemed to have some developmental challenges going on. But she was so sweet and kind to me that I let her pick me up for a photo and I didn’t even squirm like I do sometimes.
Usually for these visits, I’m there to spread happiness and help create a calm atmosphere. This time the kids made me feel even calmer too!

You do such important “work” Summer…..those kids sometimes just feel so lost in the hospital with people asking questions and poking and prodding them but seeing a soft, friendly, sweet kitty can brighten the darkest of days. You are good “medicine” for them!
