Kitty Cornered

Kitty Cornered by Bob TarteKitty Cornered: How Frannie and Five Other Incorrigible Cats Seized Control of Our House and Made It Their Home
By Bob Tarte

Like many humans, author Bob Tarte is mystified by the feline psyche… but that only serves to make us cats more appealing to him. It also has served his half-dozen felines well; it was a simple task for them to take over the house and have Bob and his savvier-but-still-pliable wife Linda cater to their every whim. While on the surface, Tarte has written a very funny book about learning to live with kitty quirks, and all the hilarious twists and turns his pets have put him through, it is also a great example of what pushovers humans can be. In fact, I kind of wonder if he does not make ruling humans seem too simple! Many of them aren’t this easy to manipulate. Some even think they can make us do their will (of course they eventually figure out they are wrong, but until they do, it can be pretty annoying). So perhaps Tarte is actually smarter than the average human, since he pretty much knows coming out of the gate that he is no match for the cats in his home. Especially willful ex-stray cow cat, Frannie. He moons over her like a lovesick Tom on a steamy summer night. If only every cat lucked into such a fortunate relationship!

So on the days when your humans are trying to force you to eat some inferior foodstuff or telling you that you can’t sun yourself on the dining table anymore, ignore them and spend some time reading this book. It will take you to a happy place where a sweetly neurotic, angst-ridden man finds solace in serving cats that will never, ever do his bidding.

Right now, my Human feels so sad and guilty about what I have been through this week (as well she should!!) I think she’ll pretty much buy me anything I want. Maybe I’ll add this book to the list.

I have no connection to Bob Tarte except as a very devoted fan, so this is an unsolicited post. I loved this book and I also whole-heartedly recommend his other 2 books, Enslaved by Ducks and Fowl Weather. Please keep sharing your animals and their stories with us!

Thanks so much for the very kind review of my book, “Kitty Cornered,” Sparkle. As I type this, I am perched on the last two inches of my computer chair, because I wouldn’t even think of dislodging the sleeping 17-year-old Agnes. My other two books also have stories about our cats, but I won’t even attempt to do any cross-selling here. Thanks again.

Sounds like a great book. That guy reminds me of how my Pop fawns over me like a love starved Tom in heat. I think I’m starting to win over TW too.

That sounds like a very nice book. Our mum has given up trying to get us to eat food we suddenly decide we don’t like, and gives it to the chick-hens.
