Good Cat by Steve DaleGood Cat! Practical Answers to Behavior Questions
By Steve Dale

In the pet world, Steve Dale is a big deal — he has two syndicated columns and a slew of other writing credits over a 20-plus-year career span, and he hosts two nationally syndicated radio shows that air on more than 100 radio stations. Plus, as a founding member of the CATalyst Council and a board member of the Wynn Foundation, he is one of America’s most prominent cat advocates. While Cat may not be his first language, this award-winning writer certainly is doing a lot for us! His latest writing endeavor is this eBook, written in Q&A form, that addresses many, many issues cats have with humans. Some of the chapter titles give you a clue to what you will find: “It’s Possible to Train Cats, More Possible They Will Train You,” “Let’s Party! Play Is Every Cat’s Passion,” and “Scratching In All the Right Places.” Yes, Steve Dale understands that we kitties are happiest when we are given lots of fun and attention, and he encourages humans to train themselves to cater to our whims. He also addresses a lot of serious issues: cats who suddenly become aggressive towards their humans or visitors (often indicates a medical issue), litter box issues (which are almost always the humans’ fault, whether they are placing the litter box in an area unappealing to the cat, not scooping enough, or creating a territorial issue by improper cat introductions), and separation anxiety (this is not just a dog problem!). And the author does not just rely on his own vast knowledge of felines, he also brings in other respected experts such as author and cat behaviorist Pamela Johnson-Bennett of Cat Vs. Cat fame, and veterinarian and feline nutrition expert Elizabeth Hodgkins to elaborate on the answers.

This is not a long book — in print form, it would probably run a little over 120 pages — and it is not a deeply comprehensive book on cat behavior, but it certainly covers a lot of territory and will give most humans enough insight to figure out how they are doing wrong by their cat, and what they can do to fix the situation. Even better, this eBook is priced low enough that anyone with a computer and the appropriate app can afford it.

Wonderful review. I may have to check this one out. I definitely have separation anxiety. When TW comes in from outside, she can hear my crying before the elevator stops on our floor.

The only treatment objection our cat has is the lack of free flowing food and that’s the vet’s fault. The cat was put on a diet and he has been objecting since it began.

That does look like a good book. We have trained our human really well so we are going to save our green papers for now. Good review. Thanks.

Thanks for the review. The boys tell me they have perfect behavior (ahem…ha!) so we don’t need the book. I’m gonna let HH make the final decision on that.

    Have a nice Sunday.

    pawhugs, Max
