Björk’s quirky, eclectic music may not be everyone’s taste, and this equally quirky video for her song “Triumph of a Heart” came out in 2005. Made by acclaimed video director Spike Jonze and shot in the singer’s native Iceland, her co-star is an Abyssinian cat, Muri. The loose storyline goes something like this: when the relationship between Björk and Muri goes sour, Björk goes out on an all-night bender which leaves her very much the worse for wear. Muri fetches her in his car and the two make up. I should warn you that the clip is very strange, and there is a good part in the middle where it is just humans, but watch through to the end. You will be impressed with Muri’s acting!

That is the strangest video I’ve ever seen, but the cat was fantastic – well the girl displayed wonderful acting too, It should get some sort of award somewhere for creativity.

Muri is such a good actor and dancer, too. I felt his pain when he was sitting home alone and waiting and waiting.

I have to admit, though…I do prefer to watch this with the sound off…don’t tell Bjork!
I realised why I like this so much (though, to be honest? I like it better with the sound off!)…
See, I get the metaphor: Bjork’s boyfriend/husband is a cat because she feels he is aloof and indifferent to her. So, when he picks her up in the car and brings her home, and she comes to realise that he really does love her, and she him, and they kiss…well, I was certain that he was going to then turn into a human.
So when she steps back, and he starts to grow…I’m thinking, here it comes, he’s going to be some handsome underwear model human man, now…but he stayed a cat!
And that is why this is awesome. That, plus the way that Bjork looks at him with real adoration in her eyes.
PS I also love the “slow blink” (TM Jackson Galaxy) from Muri when they’re making up…
